Ethics [Thursday, November 19, 1st period]

Today Anakin's desk was covered with droid babies in bassinets.

Each baby had a tiny stuffed Ewok tucked next to it. Shh.

"Today we talk about lust," Anakin said. "Or rather, the unintended consequences that can happen when you take action without precautions."

He smiled. "Meet your little projects for the next two weeks. They're heavy, they cry, and they will record everything you do with them. So if you stuff them into a closet for the duration, believe me, I'll know."

After all, he'd built all of them.

He reached for a list of paper. "Some of you I've paired together, some of you are single parents." His smile turned a little evil. "Some of your babies are a little fussier than others."

"She is lovely," Raven said wistfully. At least it wasn't a real child with real demony issues. "But I have no experience with children. Have you?"

"A little?" Tara said slowly, reaching out to run a hand over the child's hair. She was still peacefully asleep -- for the moment, anyhow. "I, uh, babysat a couple times at home. But never babies this young."

"Do you wish to hold her?" Raven said, holding out her arms if Tara wanted to take the baby.

"If this were a real child, I would be able to determine her needs easily with my gifts," she said. "And we should give her a name, should we not?"

"She doesn't have an aura," Tara said with a shy smile as she accepted the baby and bounced her against her shoulder. "I can't tell anything either."

"S-she has to have a name. Babies need names," she added. "I like, um ... Gabriella. Or Stephanie. Girly names. But it's up to you, too."

"A magical name," Raven said, smiling at the baby and wondering if she should find a red jewel and glue it to her forehead. Just because. "Gabriella is nice, it is almost like my mother's name, Arella."

"Arella is really nice too," Tara said thoughtfully. "Maybe Ariel or Ariela? That's, um, the Little Mermaid's name in the movie."

... yes, she thought that was a good thing.

"Ariela," Raven mused, trying out the name. "I like that. And perhaps something magical for a middle name? I have studied your Wicca, and I know there are plants and trees sacred to your goddess. Rowan? Willow?"

"That's really flattering -- that you researched it, I mean," Tara said, smiling down at their daughter. "Ivy is sacred too. And Rosemary. But Willow sounds prettiest. Ariela Willow Roth-Maclay?"

"I have found it fascinating," Raven said, "for it is not entirely dissimilar to the philosophies of Azarath." She touched a hand to the baby's face. "Ariela Willow Roth-Maclay sounds fine to me."

"I'd love to hear more about Azarath, then," Tara decided. "It seems -- peaceful, from everything you say."

She grinned down at the baby and made a goofy face. "Hi, Ariela Willow."

"I would be happy to tell you about it," Raven said. "But such peace has a price. Those carnivorous vegetables would have razed Azarath to the ground should they have appeared there." As ridiculous as that sounded. "But overall it is very pleasant and beautiful."

Tara looked distinctly dubious. "... unless carnivorous plants attack."

"They do not grow any there," Raven assured her. "And the random oddness inherent in Fandom does not occur in Azarath."

"I don't think it happens in most places," Tara said. "Fandom is just a very weird place."

Ariela made a baby noise of agreement.

Raven smiled, tickling Ariela under her chin. "But where else would a witch and an demon empath have an Ethics teacher from another galaxy assign them to take care of a robot baby?"

Tara laughed. "I don't think it happens too often. Probably most people would be afraid to give any of us kids, even fake ones."

She looked down at Ariela. "Can I take her to work with me? Please?"

"That probably makes the most sense?" Tara said, after a moment. "It means we'll each sleep at least half the time."
