"Welcome to your midterm," Anakin said, pacing across the flight deck of a ship (Force, but he loved the Danger Room). Behind him, thousands of pricks of lights showed that a space battle had been paused for him to talk. "Today, you will get to be Jedi. Or try, anyway. Your mission," he said, striding over to a three-dimensional schematic of the ship, "is to rescue the Chancellor of the Republic, who has been kidnapped by a General Grievous, the leader of a Separatist movement. There's also another fearsome warrior aboard, a Lord of the Sith named Count Dooku. He is not to be underestimated. He took my arm off when I was 20."

He shrugged it off.

"Regardless. You will be paired up and rescue the Chancellor. Alive, please. Your mission is to defeat the Sith Lord if he gets in the way of your mission, get to the docking bay, steal a different ship and get the hell off of this one as quickly as possible."

He smiled humorlessly. "Because this one is going to crash into the surface of Coruscant in roughly thirty minutes. So don't be too surprised at sudden gravitational shifts."

He waved his hand towards the control panel. The students would now find themselves in brown robes and holding unlit lightsaber hilts. They would work like the real things, but only in the Danger Room.

Their reflexes, regrettably, were what they had come in with.

"Try not to die," Anakin said, "and for the love of the Force, don't do stupid things with your lightsabers like try to skewer your classmates or write your name in the floor."

He then rattled off the partners:

"Hello, Maron," Raven said, giving the other girl a smile despite her own unease at this test. "Do you have any thoughts on how we should do this? If we can get to the Chancellor, I can teleport us all safely from the ship."

She frowned thoughtfully, then looked rueful.

"I'm not much of a fighter," she said honestly. "I'd rather sneak in, since we've got to, and that way has the added bonus that we don't have to hurt anyone."

Even if they were only 'people' in the Danger Shop sense.

"I am not a warrior, either," Raven said. "I am learning to defend myself, but harming others is distasteful to me. I like your plan."

Most timid. Jedi. Ever.

Very much so!

"I can't think of a reason to want to hurt people," she said, making a face at the robe. Boooring. "Do you have much experience sneaking around, if you don't mind me asking?"

Raven shook her head. "I do not," she said. "And I cannot teleport us to the Chancellor because I do not know where he is. But once we find him...."

"Um, well, I'm not bad at it," she said, "I mean, I've got some practice in sneaking around, at least. Though I admit I'm not so sure about what sort of security they'd have in a place, like, on another world..."

"There is only one way to find out, I suppose," Raven said. "Shall we begin?"

[Do we want to handwave the sneakiness and go play with Dooku? :) ]

"And--what did he say--try not to die?"

Maron laughed, if a bit uneasily at that.

[I'm good with either option! :D You decide!]

"It is only a simulation, and Professor Skywalker would not allow us to be seriously harmed," Raven said. "But in the event that either of us are injured, I am a healer."

[I vote we skip to the good part. :D ]

"Lucky!" she said, grinning over at that. "I'm not, so please watch out for me, and I'll do my best for you!"

[Absolutely!]

"Of course," Raven said. "I will not allow you to come to any harm if I can help it."

And off they went.
