As soon as Sam got to the library today, he headed for the stacks to try to find more books on demons that could explain things for him and Andy. It was hard to imagine that there were books he hadn't read yet, but it was still worth a good search.

"Yeah, I like them," Sam said, smiling at Chuck. "The bacon's the best part, obviously."

"If I could have brought just bacon without coming off as weird, I would have," Chuck said. "In a perfect world, maybe."

"You could get away with that with me," Sam assured him. "I'm not picky."

"Good to know just in case in case I get lazy," he said. Yeah, because going to the Diner took so much effort. "How'd your Parents Weekend go?"

"It was pretty good, except for the part where I have to admit that you're right," Sam said.

"Right about what?" There were oh so many things he felt he was right about.

"Your father is impossible," Sam said. "I've met a lot of jerks in my life, and he's definitely up there near the top."

"Shit," Chuck mumbled, shaking his head. "I'm sorry, Sam. I should have kept him away from you. He was definitely on top of his bitchy game last weekend."

"It's not your fault. I'm the one who approached him," Sam said. "But you were right. Nothing I said about you got through to him."

"Well you're a brave man for trying in the first place," Chuck said with a smirk. "I showed him everything I did with Caritas and Victrola and still he acted like I was the biggest disappointment in the world."

"I told him how well you're doing and he just said I was crazy and that it would only be a matter of time before you disappoint me," Sam said. "How could he say that about his own son? Even my dad isn't that bad."

Chuck frowned at that. He knew that's how his dad felt but, still, it hurt to hear he was telling that to other people. "He's not completely wrong, I guess..."

It's not like he meant to do it but that's just how it turned out.

"He is when it comes to me," Sam said, like there was no point in arguing with him about that.

Chuck smirked. "You are one of the most stubborn people I have ever met in my entire life."

"Exactly, and if he thinks I'm going to take all the time I've spent getting you to be a person and throw it away for one little disappointment, he's crazy," Sam replied.

Chuck wanted to explain that his disappointments weren't exactly little but he figured Sam would figure that out eventually.

"If only my father was like you," he said. "But I'm hoping to make it up to him. I'm visiting Yale next week. That should make him happy."

Chuck was delusional.

"Yale? That's a really good school," Sam said, sounding impressed. "That could go a long way to make him happy."

Yeah, he could be delusional too.

"Between you and me, I'm not actually planning to apply," Chuck said. "I just want to spend some time with Nate. And if I happen to hook up with a few coeds while I'm there, good for me."

"You don't even want to apply? Just to see if you could get in?" Sam asked. Not that he was planning on doing that or anything.

"Of course I'd get in. My father owns a good bit of the Manhattan skyline. Every Ivy league college wants me or Serena just for the publicity it'd get," Chuck said. "But I told you before, I don't want to go to college."

"I know. I don't get it, but I know," Sam said. "It's too bad you couldn't apply with like, a fake name to see what would happen that way."

"I've got bad grades and literally no extracurriculars. I don't think I'd get in that way," Chuck said. "You should be glad I'm not planning to go to college. Nate doesn't want to go Ivy either. So there's two open spots for normal geeks like you to take over."

"I don't know if I could get into Yale," Sam said. "But I have been looking at Columbia."

"You could get into Yale and Columbia," Chuck said confidently. "I have faith in your geekiness."

Sam grinned at that, looking a little bashful. "Thanks. I hope you're right."
