Sam had tried to sleep last night, or at least fake it for Illyria's sake, but he couldn't keep his conversation with Andy from replaying over and over in his head. He wasn't alone with his demon-supported ability, not anymore, and while that was vaguely reassuring, it also meant that Yellow Eyes hadn't lied to him about there being other kids like him, and that meant everything else he'd ever said to Sam could be true too.

The demon blood was a whole separate issue. It explained so much - how he ended up with visions, what Yellow Eyes had been doing in his nursery - but left him with dozens of other questions - why didn't he have a problem with holy water, why didn't he have trouble in church, how quickly would his dad disown him when he found out? He was trying to stay hopeful until he had time to talk to Castiel, but it wasn't easy. Hopefully, he'd have some solid distractions to get him through the day.

Since it was the first of the month, Sam backed up the library's software, and virus-checked the computer. It was mindless work, but it felt helpful.

Knowing that books wouldn't be enough to distract him, Sam started up The Sims and checked on his houses.

Then, he made a female Sim who looked like Angela Petrelli, and locked her in a room with no door. That made him feel a little better.

Claire would love to hear about his Sim version of her biological paternal grandmother.

So it was probably a good thing that she showed up, as usual, with a coffee for Sam and a hot chocolate for herself.

"It's actually cool enough to drink these without sweating this morning," she remarked.

Sam grinned at the sight and smell of hot coffee. "Finally. I like it best when the weather is like this," he said, taking the coffee with a grateful smile. Maybe if he wore less layers, summer would be easier.

"This is football weather," Claire agreed. "I'm not looking forward to it getting much colder though."

Texas girl and all that.

"The winter here isn't too bad. The island's kind of pretty when it snows," Sam said, before glancing over to the screen. Oops, Sim!Angela was getting hungry. Too bad her money couldn't magically buy a door to her room.

Claire followed his glance. "What are you playing?" she asked.

"The Sims," Sam said, looking a little embarrassed when he realized that Claire might not like what he was doing. "I'm being mean, don't mind me."

"You? Are being mean? To whom? And why?"

Because that just didn't sound like Sam to her.

"Um. To your grandmother," Sam admitted. "But she was mean first, I swear."

"My gran... oh, you mean Angela?" Claire asked, making a face. "Of course she was mean first. It's her superpower."

Amazingly enough, giving Dean and Alec yet another kid to deal with made him feel better too.

Sam had managed to think ahead enough that he had some cookies from the bakery to share with Chuck if he came by.

Chuck came into the library around his usual time with a burger and fries for Sam and a flask of scotch for himself. Look, his dad was coming tomorrow, he was allowed to drink at noon.

"If I don't make it through this weekend, I want you to have my scarf."

Try to be more dramatic, Chuck.

"You're going to be fine," Sam said, perfectly happy to focus on Chuck's problems instead of his own. "It's only a few days and then all the parents will go away again."

"Do you know what this man is capable of doing over a few days?" Chuck asked. "He's just like me, only meaner."

"Am I allowed to meet him, or should I keep my distance?" Sam asked.

"Why would you want to meet him?" Chuck asked. "He scares most people."

"Because he's your father," Sam said, leaving the and you're my friend part unsaid. "I don't scare easily, and I want to know if he really is as horrible as you say, or worse."

Chuck stared at Sam for a moment and then shrugged. "I'm not going to stop you if you want to talk to him. At least you're normal. It's Cass that will say something I'm gonna regret."

"I'll be careful," Sam promised him. "Just tell Castiel not to mention the angel part. If he talks about you becoming a better person, maybe your dad will just think he's lying." Stupid, stupid man.

"Getting Castiel to not mention the angel thing is next to impossible. But, you're right, my dad wouldn't believe anything he says," Chuck said. "Anyway, I think I've got the both of them distracted enough for the weekend that they won't have the chance to run into each other."
