DADA for Muggles [Wednesday, September 30, 5th period]

The students had been handwavily invited to the Danger Shop today, where an hour prior Remus and Sirius had struggled with the programming and a fair number of expletives had been irritably shouted.

At the moment, though, it appeared as a dank, dark room that had clearly once been the toast of someone's rather ostentatious home. The furniture and trappings had clearly been unattended for several decades, however.

"Hello, everyone!" Remus said cheerfully, because this was the sort of day where excess cheer would come in handy. "Defending oneself against dark creatures and evil people isn't always going to be enough. Occasionally, you'll run across cursed objects themselves, which will look perfectly harmless. In Muggle films, these are often depicted as a relic, or a book, the opening or touching of which will invoke some sort of thousand year-old curse. These aren't just stories, at least in our world. At home, we have an entire section of our government devoted to bewitched and misused objects."

"And sometimes they're beloved family heirlooms," Sirius added sourly, glancing around the room. "In this room, there are several cursed objects. What you are looking for are found on the sheets of parchment that Merlin and Griff assuming they are here are passing out to you now. Please search for and identify as many as you can before the class is over without enchanting or poisoning yourself or your classmates."

He pointed to a basket of dragonhide gloves. "The gloves aren't optional today."

"As always, we're both available to help and answer questions," Remus added helpfully. "Don't touch anything with your bare hands, please, and if you run into trouble, do let us know."

Cursed objects? That was something Firekeeper was entirely too familiar with. So she was gonna frown a lot as she listened to this particular lecture.

Well, this was...actually moderately creepy, in that way houses left to rot were, with a little something extra. Plus, Jenny, as a non-practitioner, wasn't a fan of curses that could actually do her a harm at the best of times.

She was sure today would be just buckets of fun.

This place was almost creepier than Alex's own home and that was saying something. He half listened to the lecture while looking around the dank place.

Cursed objects were something she was too damned familiar with, so Annja was paying close attention.

Didi didn't mind the house, even if it looked like Didi's sister Despair had collaborated with Morticia Addams in decorating it. She glanced around thoughtfuly as she took notes.

Oh great. Between Tyler's germ lecture on Monday and today's cursed object class, Priestly was never going to want to touch anything ever again.

Whoa. Creepy.

And they had to find cursed things in all this?

Momoko thought she remembered learning about cursed objects in Mr Winchester's class, but still listened closely; she didn't want to end up cursed! Especially if she didn't know any magic to uncurse herself with!

And more frowning, because she couldn't actually read this list. She looked around, hoping someone would be willing to help out with that.

Alex donned the gloves before doing anything and then started skulking around the house, looking for something on the list. A few of them he didn't want to find but he knew his luck meant he'd probably find those first.

Annja pulled on a pair of gloves and then started studying her list.

This was kind of creepy.

Didi was grateful she'd worn a jacket today as she pulled on her gloves and started prodding at case of what she'd call knickknacks if the word wasn't a bit too cheerful for this place. A thing on the shelf just above her reach seemed like it might be a music box...

Sam, being Sam, decided to look for the daggers. He didn't see the point of the gloves - if something was cursed, he didn't know if gloves would be able to stop the thing - but he put them on anyway and started carefully moving things to look around.

Priestly kinda stood in the middle of the room with his gloved hands in his pockets and attempted to look for the objects without actually going anywhere near anything.

Jack held the list in his gloved hands, absently walking around the house. He was paying more attention to the list than to where he was going.

Diana found herself drawn to the music box and spent the class time studying it without opening it.

Momoko pulled the gloves on and then looked over her list before starting out. She wondered what kind of bolts the clock would shoot. If it was a grandfather clock, wouldn't it be big and obvious and therefore easy to find?

"Right!" She pumped her fists eagerly. "Off to find the clock, first!"

Merlin was there and still magnificently bruised with his war wounds.

Yes. War wounds. Don't you take this from him.
