Study Hall - Monday, October 17th

Sarah sits on the floor of the study hall, playing with a bunch of black lab puppies.

No, really.

And no, she's not teaching them how to kill. Although she is making them sniff a toaster and then sniff everybody who comes into the room.

Today is obviously not a low-paranoia day for her.

Marty considers feeding some of his remaining ham and cheese sandwich to the puppies but decides against it. After all Connor will probably kill him and he really doesn't want to hear dogs howling "Abba" tunes all day.

Marty sits down with some large index cards and starts writing signs to help him communicate.

If anyone approaches he's probably trying very hard not to sing "Dancing Queen."

Angela looks at him skeptically, but still concerned, as she walks in. "Are you still singing?"

Marty sighs, which was a mistake because he opened his mouth and starts singing again.

I said you’d better watch out.

Marty rolls his eyes and scribbles out a message.

"Does that answer your question? They had ham and cheese sandwiches at the cafeteria today and I couldn't resist. Anything happen over the weekend? We really didn't get a chance to talk a lot last night."

Marty puts a smiley face at the end of the last sentence.

Angela sighs. "What is that, Abba or something?" She raises a hand. "Don'e answer that.

Glancing at Rory, she says, "Some stuff happened, yeah. I'll tell you when we're alone. But like I promised, I'm in one piece."

Rory sits down near Marty and Angela, and eyes the index cards.

"Something wrong, Blank?" she asks innocently.

"He ate in the cafeteria. Now he's singing."

She twists a piece of hair. "I don't know WHY he still eats there."

Pulls out sign and points to it.

"They had Ham and Cheese sandwiches! Couldn't resist."

Angela grabs a sharpie from her bag and underlines the word "resist."

"I'm sorry -- I mean, I am really happy that you're back. Which you know. Just ... this wasn't how I expected to be serenaded."

Marty writes under it.

"Sorry. How do you want to be serenaded?"

Angela gives him a mischevous smile.

"I would say Peter Gabriel and a boom box, but Gordon kind of stole that. Um ... not-Abba would be good."

"Considering he has a pet that came from there, I don't know either," Rory replies wryly.

"He brought a cat back from Chicago, too," Angela says in the same tone. "Camilla was really happy about that."

"A cat and a chicken? Wow. I bet Camilla and the kitty are best buds now, huh? Because cats and birds are always like this," she adds, holding up crossed fingers.

"Camilla stormed out of the room, and I get to take on the cat." Angela tucks her hair behind her ear. "I mean, it's cute, though."

"Muppet Chicken... If a Muppet chicken can get along with a bear, why not a cat? Okay... I was wrong but the muppet thing clouded the issue."

Marty scowls and makes the mistake of opening his mouth


I was sick and tired of everything
When I called you last night from glasgow
All I do is eat and sleep and sing


Marty rolls his eyes and holds up a cue card that says.

"Don't eat the Ham and Cheese sandwiches today."

He then pulls out a copy of the school newspaper, points to the "Shipping News" and points to Rory with a smirk on his face.

Rory sighs. "I know. I should have listened to you. But you can't gloat without Abba's help today, can you?"

Pulls out poster board and writes on it.

TOLD YOU SO!!!

And hops around Rory waving the sign.

When he's down he sits down and writes:

"At least you didn't have detention with Drusilla."

Rory observes this, smiling.

"It'd be more effective if you gloated vocally," she says when he's done. "And I have detention with someone Saturday. For all I know, it's still Drusilla."

Marty holds up a cue card which he's been writing.

"Don't eat at the cafeteria today. *Trust me*"
