Detention, Saturday
"Hey," Mitchell called, once the handwavey detention announcement had gone out and everyone had had time to gather up by the Danger Shop. "I'm Mitchell. Some of you might've met me." He grinned. "You're here because for whatever reason, the school has chosen to recognise your trespasses. That doesn't mean it has to be horrible, just unpleasant."
Another slight grin, with only a hint of apology.
"So today, we're going to be preparing for a tea party," he continued, "Although I'd like it if you'd all go light on the tea. I'm more of a coffee person."
He shouldn't be allowed free range of children.
"Just enter through there and get your finest," he said, waving at the doorway, "And I'll see you on the other end."

Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
"You do realize by standing there that you're literally doing the job of a closed door. Your boss, whoever he is, doesn't even appreciate you enough to give you a job that couldn't be done by a slab of wood."

Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
Oh, Seth. Yes, you were.
Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
"If you're better than a door, which I'm sure you are, then you can't be here to let 'no one' in. So that means you have to be more discerning than a door. If you're more discerning than a door, then that means you're to let certain people in.
"Now, if your employer knew who he wanted to let in, he no doubt would have used a door and distributed keys. As he hasn't, that means the decision as to who to let in must, in fact, be up to you. He certain trusts you quite a lot to leave such a decision in your hands."
Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
What he got from that was, "Yes, I suppose he would. Yeah. He trusts me."
And there came the grinning like an idiot.
Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
"Now, I'm unarmed, and I haven't argued with you. Just a bit of reasoning. I like to think I can be friendly. Do you think I could get in? Would you say I meet your standards, sir?"
Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
And that was the moment Seth kind of realised, in the pit of his stomach, that he'd been out-maneuvered. It was a familiar feeling. "Okay, but don't ruin any of the hoovering I've done! I just got the carpet cleaned!"
Re: Talk to the Doorman. Guy.
"I won't. I used to do all the cleaning where I came from. Oh, she could stay up all hours of the night doing her experiments, her great work, but she couldn't clean the crumbs from the counter after she'd cut the bread. I certainly understand."
