Language Classes, Monday, Oct. 17

Hello.

I hope you enjoyed the movies on Friday. It's nice to have some diversion before the weekend.

Today, we are resuming our lessons from Wednesday.

Classics Students: You have a quiz on Hebrew today. The quiz consists of 15 vocabulary questions, a passage to translate, and a two-minute conversation with me in Hebrew. Approach me at my desk when you are ready for our conversation to begin.

Languages of Asia:We are continuing our work on Cantonese Chinese. Please review this audiotape and write a brief script using structures from it and your worksheet on Wednesday.

Sam signs in. She looks even more exhausted than last weekend and, if you look closely, you may notice that her eyes are a little red from weeping.

She takes the quiz and just barely passes it.

Janet waves blearily at Sam as she walks in.

Then she sneezes. And sneezes again.

Janet sniffles and blows her nose as she slumps into the desk next to Sam's. "Allergies," she mouths before Sam can ask.

Thomasina arrives for her lesson on time, signs her name to the roll sheet, takes her usual seat and commences taking the quiz. She finds the vocabulary and translation portions a bit difficult, but not unduly so. It is the part where she will have to converse that actually worries her.

Sonia signs in, and looks for a spare seat. She looks less tired than before (http://www.livejournal.com/users/soniabelmont/4686.html), but there are still remnants of dark circles under her eyes. Beethoven is still close behind her, looking as surly as ever.

She does pretty well on the test, but is a bit worried about the conversational portion, and timidly approaches Dream's desk.

Janet signs in and takes her quiz. She passes with a better-than-average, if not excellent grade. Her eyes are red and watering, and she keeps sneezing and blowing her nose with tissues from the very large box of kleenex she's brought into class this morning.

Every once in a while, she pops a candy and chocolate-coverered espresso bean in her mouth.

Rory comes in, and, mentally going over her Hebrew, approaches Dream's desk. "Good morning, Professor," she says, smiling slightly.

Rogue, having studied for Hebrew extensivly after failing her last quiz, passes the written portions, doing better than average, but not perfect.

She approaches Dream's desk for the written portion.

Murphy signs in, yawning.

He does a fairly good job on both the quiz and the translation.

Anders signs in and takes his quiz. He's grinning and more than a little distracted, but somehow manages to scrape a passing grade by the skin of his teeth. The conversation part, though, is going to be nasty.

Jack signs in and takes his test. He gets thirteen of the vocab questions right and mistranslates a few words but passes fairly well.

Janet signs in and works on her Indo-European independent study. Her sneezing has partially subsided, but her eyes are still red and watery from her allergies.
