Multicultural Fair! [The Gym - After Classes]

The benefit of doing something like this for the second time meant that Joan and Turtle had a much easier time of setting things up since they knew what worked and what didn't.

Turtle had, once again, provided decorations from Turtle & Canary. There was the requisite refreshment table, though it was primarily there to provide beverages, since most of the booths featured culturally appropriate food.

After set up was complete, Joan and Turtle sat down to catch up while they waited for the fair to begin.

[wait for the ocd or Turtle will kick you in the shin OCD up! No shins were harmed in the making of this post!]

"Enjoying yourself?" Azula asked pleasantly. Dinah couldn't possibly be surprised since Azula was standing right there, right?

No, although she could have no comeback until after she took a rice ball and chewed, swallowed, got her taste buds under control, then nearly breathed fire. "Yessss." Gulp and grab water. "It's good. Atomic-flavor. Nice." Dinah took a breath, and tried to get her composure back. "Who're the two pictures?"

Azula didn't hide her smirk. She didn't know what 'Atomic-flavor' was but she could guess. "It's just the way we like our food."

"The one who looks regal and imperial is my father the former Fire Lord Ozai and the other one is my brother Zuzu. Oh, I'm sorry, I meant Zuko."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Zuzu?" Dinah chortled in the middle of another bite of the spicy spicy fish, and smirked. "Is that his nickname? Kinda less impressive there."

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Its his nickname," Azula confirmed with a chuckle. Then Azula sobered but her eyes were sparkling with humor. "But he is the current Fire Lord we must accord him with every respect. He prefers to be called Fire Lord Zuzu-- there I go again, I meant Zuko.

Dinah snickered again, nodding, and took another drink of water. "What's the Fire Lord do?" she asked, curious. Azula was so a younger sister. She didn't even have to ask to guess that.

"The Fire Lord is the absolute monarch, the commander-in-chief of all of its armies, anointed by Agni himself to lead the Fire Nation," Azula proclaimed proudly, "And then there's my brother."

Stop making her laugh, Azula. She's going to burn her throat that way.

"I seeeee." Dinah gulped more water, and grinned. "So he's back home, doing ... Fire Lord duties." He'd have to be impressive, Azula's opinion aside, to be in charge of all that. "Gotcha." Tentatively, she said, "I have two sisters. Both older than me."

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Azula pretended to look innocent but the effect was ruined by her smirk.

"Yes, he's home doing Fire Lord duties. I just hope he hasn't messed-up too much while I'm away." He really better not. She might be a war criminal but Zuko will discover she was still formidable shackled or not.

Azula raised an eyebrow but there was a knowing smile on her lips. "Then, I suppose you are also very respectful towards your sisters?"

Dinah briefly looked very 'who, me?' "Um. Does borrowing her stuff because it's so cool count as respect?" Without asking? And taking friends for rides on it?

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you add in annoying them with the borrowed stuff in the mix," Azula said with a smirk.

"Then I totally, totally respect Helena. Who really is pretty awesome," she had to admit, "But sometimes needs to have someone tell her to lighten up." Dinah grinned a little. "What stuff did you annoy Zuzu, I'm sorry, Fire Lord Zuko with?"

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Your sister sounds a lot better than my brother. Zuzu-- there I go again, I keep doing that-- Zuko does tend to take himself too seriously."

"Well, I always enjoyed interrupting his time with Mai, his girlfriend. Wife now, I suppose. I also loved showing him whose better when it comes to bending. He turns all sorts of interesting shades of red."

Tame examples, she didn't suppose Dinah would react well with her other examples.

Probably not, no.

"Poooor Zuzu. I mean, Lord Zuko." Dinah grinned wickedly. "See, and I had to keep telling Helena to just jump her boyfriend already. She kept denying anything was going on." She rolled her eyes. "I'm working on getting better at fighting. She's the one that trained me before I came here."

"Then you when you return home you could astound her with your new and improved martial arts," Azula told her as incentive. Because younger sisters should always be better than their older siblings. It was a rule.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"See, this is the plan!" Dinah was glad Azula appreciated that. "Otherwise I'll never catch up. She's eight years older than I am, and she's been doing it since she was fifteen or so. I have to take every opportunity I can." She glanced at the painting of Zuko. "How much older is your brother?"

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"You mean its not obvious from my loving depiction of my dear brother?" She asked, deadpan.

Because a cardboard and black ink was really an accurate portrayal of Zuko.

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm thinking two or so years older, but the expression makes it hard to be really sure," Dinah deadpanned, having no idea at all from that picture.

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have an excellent eye," Azula praised. "Yes, he is two years older than me. You can see his age because of his hair, the way its so tidily groomed. I drew his hair very lovingly you see."

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can completely see that. And that your skills as an artist lie in really expressing your opinion of the subject." Dinah bit her lip, trying not to laugh. "Have you ever considered political satire?"

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"But its not satire, it is a very accurate depiction of my 'hotman' brother." All said with wide, innocent eyes.

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah snorted and almost cracked up. Azula was a lot more human like this. "I'm suuure it is." She grinned and ate another bit of candy, muttering "hot hot hot" under her breath, then swallowing. "And I'm sure his would be equally flattering."

Re: Fire Nation -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure there would be dragons and fire if he were to draw me." And then he'd probably burn the picture. He was dramatic that way.

"You seem to be enjoying the candy." She took one and popped it in her mouth. "These are my favorites followed by the Flaming Fire Flakes."
