The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon

Today was the day of the club fair! Wasn't it just so exciting?!

Jean was totally excited.

So excited, in fact, that she showed up early to find it just as everything was being set up like the little overachiever she was. Maybe she'd be able to swing voters here!

Oh look! The club schedule! This was going to be so great, right everyone?!

Hannibal was there, grinning widely. He'd gotten his class over with, gotten Arthur to help run this thing ~~which is still in progress~~ and now he was relaxing. So far, it was a good Friday!

"Hey, Hannibal," Ben said with a tiny smile. "Are we still working on making a satellite?"

"It's on my list," he said and actually did pull out a creased list of activities for the frat. Satellite was near the top and underlined. He couldn't very well let the vision of the first frat go astray, could he? "I haven't got a clue on how to make a satellite though but always time to learn."

"I know how," said geeky, geeky Ben.

"You're kind of a nerd," Hannibal said affectionately, "which is why you probably need to be the satellite project leader."

Ben beamed at him. "Okay! Thanks!"

Never let it be said that Hannibal didn't know when to let other people take charge when he knew he'd just mess it all up.

"No problem," Hannibal replied. "Satellite's in good hands!"

Ben scrawled his name down on the list and grinned again before taking off.

"What's a frat?" Karla asked, puzzling over the sign.

"Short for a fraternity," he filled in. "Basically, it's a club for guys to get together and do guy stuff."

Very basic at that.

"What kind of 'guy stuff'?" Karla asked, eyebrow raised.

"Any kind of guy stuff," he said, shrugging a shoulder. "It depends on what me and Arthur decide we wanna do. Last year, we did things like bowling, swimming, making satellites, eating and shooting a calendar."

"That sounds like much more fun than the sorority!" Karla objected. The line about exceeding excellence in citizenship that she'd found in some of the literature had been a bit much.

"Does it?" Oh no, that wasn't smugness in Hannibal's voice. You were just imagining that. "Well, there wasn't a sorority last year and we did have a frat. Maybe it's the experience factor?"

"Does it have to be males only?" Karla asked, giving him a very tiny pout. "Unless you're wandering around naked, there isn't anything you've listed that I don't do, too."

Well, she'd never gone bowling. Or shot a calendar. But she'd shot targets before. Hell, if they were so lacking in targets that they were shooting calendars, she'd bring them some!

"Actually, even if you are doing it naked, it's nothing I haven't seen." She's a Healer, people!

"We haven't done anything naked." Yet, of course. They'd done half naked for the calendar. "Frats are generally guys only. It's even in the definition of the word. And it's going to be guy focused."

"Guy focused how?" It wasn't her fault the frat sounded much cooler. Hannibal really had only himself to blame.

Sticky annoyed elder god is sticky and annoyed. And not trying out for cheerleading.

"What is the purpose of this brotherhood of yours? Do you plan to make alliances for the purposes of conquering neighboring kingdoms?" That sounded kind of fun.

Wow, that was one...unpleasant sounding person. Girl? Had to be a girl. He went with girl.

"Neighboring kingdoms?" he asked, tilting his head at her. "We're on an island, should we be conquering the water?"

"A challenge to defend, but a plausible base of operations from which to conquer the mainland."

"What's the mainland done to us?" Hannibal asked curiously. "They've never attacked us, we're kind of at peace."

"It's there. You don't control it. You could." Illyria shrugged. "If ruling isn't your goal, why do you band together?"

"For..." Hannibal didn't know if 'free food' would work with this one. "Because sometimes guys just need to get together and do guy things, you know? Because, as pretty as the girls in this place are, it's just good to have guy friends that you can go to about guy things."

Yes, that was about as helpful as gills in the vastness of space. "What are these "guy things" you speak of?"

Man, he was getting hit with having to define guy things a few times today. He really should have written stuff down.

"Well, like guy activities first of all," he said. "Physical sports and things like that. Knocking each other around. Uh. Guy talk which here can run the gamut from sports to battles to noses my co-leader over there has broken in his time. Working with our hands--"

Not dirty.

"--in some fashion. Getting dirty, drinking, eating, burping and talking crudely."

Or, that's what he thought guy stuff was.
