Defense Against the Dark Arts for Muggles [Wednesday, Sept 2, 5th period]

When students entered the room on Wednesday, they'd find it looking exactly like a normal, ordinary classroom -- rows of desks facing the front, and two men standing at the front. Both were in their mid-thirties (though perhaps a bit weathered), and wearing shabby-looking long robes. However, if students looked up, they'd notice that the room's ceiling was enchanted to look like the sky outside. It was a touch of Hogwarts for their own comfort as well as students' amusement (though Remus had had to talk Sirius out of making the sky cloudy.)

Sirius's eyes never stayed still--focusing first on the students as they arrived, mentally appraising how threatening they might be, or if they betrayed any sign of recognizing his face, which had been plastered all over the wizard world for the better part of a year--but then they flickered to the window of the classroom, or the door, preparing for attack. If it seemed a little paranoid, well. He took a headcount, then nodded to Remus to begin.

Remus, who'd been smiling at the students as they entered and attempting to provide a counter to Sirius' fairly imperious figure, clapped his hands together lightly. "Good afternoon. I'm Remus Lupin, and this is Sirius Black." No one had seemed to recognize Sirius, and they couldn't very well keep his identity a secret for the entire school year. "Welcome to Defense Against the Dark Arts for Muggles. Now, that name may be a bit confusing to you. Allow me to explain -- Professor Black and I are both wizards, and in our culture, non-magical folk are called Muggles. We've been given to understand that while the student body here boasts a wide array of abilities and proclivities, not all of you are familiar with the use of magic. So, this class will be focusing on using whatever talents you do have -- and I don't want to hear that you don't have a defensive talent, because everyone has something -- against the evils that plague our collective world."

"Because they're out there," Sirius said firmly. "Today we'll start out simply: your name, and what you would consider a dark art." He scowled. "And no comments about dark art being sketches made with charcoal. Unlike other courses, what you learn here could very easily save your life."

He pointed to a student at random. "You. Begin."

"Oh," Remus added, holding up a hand to pause. "And would Griffin O'Connor and Merlin please see one or both of us after class? Thank you."

All right, so he'd gone from a sex class to a class being taught by two OMGINLOVE wizards, one twitchy and the other looking like he needed some sun.

Oh well. Alex supposed it could have been worse. At least it didn't look like he'd be bored. And, while they were talking, he could think about which girl he'd ask to instruct Griff with his issues.

Firekeeper sat, her movements still somewhat stiff. Blind Seer was beside her, of course, and the two couldn't help but share a speculative glance as they caught the scent of the two teachers. Unusual, definitely.

Well... this was a little unusual, as classes went. Effy could work with that.

And she could drift off, fiddle with her pen, and think about her own things when they weren't talking about anything important. There were more than a few things there for her to dwell on.

Sam hadn't been sure about this class when he first signed up, about whether or not it would have anything to do with things he already knew, but the more he listened, the more excited he got.

Merlin flopped over his desk, just so bloody glad to be back here. It was truly a sad day when all of this made perfect sense.

And there were wizards! Whom he was rather hopeful weren't evil at all!

Yeah, Priestly was starting to wonder what kind of defensive abilities he could have that would count to wizards.

Somehow, he didn't think his 'big stick' technique would go over that well. Even if it had worked on zombie!Hurley.

It sounded as if this was going to be an interesting class. Though Professor Black did seem a bit ... skittish.

Edmund sat quietly and listened, but his expression was grave and thoughtful. The class would no doubt be useful, but dark magic, as always, troubled him.

A team of teachers talking about magic was not entirely what Griffin had expected his schedule to throw at him.

And then they called his name, fantastic.

Annja was listening to the lecture and taking notes. This class didn't look like it was going to be boring... and Roux would be interested in it.

This class didn't seem like it would be completely useless. The Endless were above a lot of things, but strong wizardry could get to them -- and, as Didi had found out, in this form she was completely vulnerable if her ankh was stolen. She fingered it thoughtfully as she listened to the lecture,

At least Alice could properly parse the title, now. She'd been wondering if perhaps they were learning to protect themselves from Muggles, and had been quite curious as to what those vile creatures might be.

Alright. Between meeting people who can do things like shoot lightning out of their fingers and talk of things like giant mutant alligators, and now this class, Andy was coming to the conclusion that weird was pretty much the norm around here.

It certainly made the place more interesting.

Momoko wondered what Professor Black was looking for.

She also wondered what Professor Lupin meant by saying that everyone had a defensive talent. She assumed he meant against magic. She couldn't remember having one. That was kind of why she'd wanted to take the class (once she'd figured out what 'dark arts' meant).

"Alex Karev," he said for probably the hundredth time. He didn't know what the hell they were looking for with dark arts so he went with something outlandishly cliche. "Exorcisms are dark arts."

"Am Blysse," Firekeeper spoke. "And he, Blind Seer," she nodded to indicate she meant the large wolf by her side. "Dark art?" Her eyes flickered first to Francine, then Merlin. "Blood magic."

"Diana Hansen." Diana said, curling one leg underneath herself on her chair.. "H-e-l-l is pretty bad." Yes, she spelled it.

"Dinah Lance, and... " Go with what you know, right? "Making someone do something against their will, with telepathy or hypnotic compulsion," she said, voice siserious.

"I'm Effy," she said, leaning forward against her desk. "Dark art, could be anything that's going to hurt someone." She didn't know much at all about magic, so she went for the broadest answer she could do.

AAAAAAAAAAAAND as a heads up, I won't be around from 4 EST or so until, optimistically, about 8 or 9, but likely 10, omg. Stupid work!
