"So you just get back today, then?" Ronan asked.

"Just in time for the picnic," replied Hoshi. "Otherwise, I spent the past week planet-hopping with Carmela after I fled from San Francisco."

"Fled?" Ronan asked. "I'm glad you had somewhere to flee to -- and how is Carmela, by the way? -- but what happened that you needed to flee?"

"Carmela's great. She says hi, by the way," said Hoshi. "As for the fleeing, I got into some trouble with Starfleet. I had some disagreements with the legal drinking age and the fact that they wouldn't let me keep the Captain's dog. But I guess what really did it was breaking my commanding officer's arm when we got into a fight over a poker game."

It had been a busy two months.

"It was all so stupid," said Hoshi. "All the other cadets were way older than me, and they would hang out at the bar but when I went, I got picked by security. So that's when I started running poker games on the weekends to hang out with people, but it relied on a careful interpretation of the rules. And when I got caught, my CO didn't listen to my explanation."

"At least it was an eventful couple of months? 'May you live in interesting times' is apocryphal as a curse, apparently, and I'm glad -- I'd rather live in interesting times any day of the week."

"Well, there was a lot of pushing and shoving involved before the arm got broken," said Hoshi. "Really, though, it was pretty crazy. I'm glad to be out of there."
