Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Yes, there were even more tents on the other side of the lawn.

Yes, the tables and chairs that had been set up there were still close to the ice cream.

Tahiri looked frozen between shock and defensiveness for a moment, but both faded from her expression when she heard George speak. Mostly.

"Sorry," she said. "You look just like someone else I know."

Knowing what she did, boy, this was going to be tricky for a while.

George made a face. "Don' tell me you're that Jacen's sister too, lass."

"No," Tahiri sputtered. "I've just known him for years . . . and I guess that means you've met Jaina already."

Pretty Jaina. Sigh.

"Aye, I met her," George agreed. "Quite a lovelt lass."

Tahiri raised an eyebrow. "I hope you're not getting any ideas." ~~Shut up, she wasn't jealous.~~

Okay, ow, someone who looked like Jacen saying that . . . ow. Brain. "I knew I shouldn't have said anything about new weirdness."

"Th' lass made her feelin's on th' subject clear," George admitted. "I shall have nary an idea in m'head."

He raised an eyebrow curiously. "Am I to be included in these 'new weirdnesses' then, lass? Y'could just call me by m'name."

Tahiri managed to relax a bit and smiled. "The Fandom doubles thing is pretty standard, but I wasn't expecting this one, that's all. So what's your name, not-Jacen?"

"George Cooper," he replied promptly. "Has a bit of a nicer ring than not-Jacen, hmm? And yerself?"

"That makes it a lot less weird," she told him. "Tahiri Veila. Jaina's a friend of mine."

That was still kind of a surprise to say, sometimes.

"S'a pleasure t'meet you, Tahiri," George said with a crooked smile, his eyes flashing mischief at her. "As it was your friend, Jaina. You two must've grown up t'gether?"

"A different Jaina from the one here, and not really; I grew up with her younger brother more." She actually got that out without any hesitation. Go Tahiri. Not being particularly good in the social skills department, she didn't think anything of the look. "Sorry about the rude welcome, George."

"Never a problem," George said lightly. "Jus' give a lad a warnin' before you punch him, aye? Is Jaina's little brother at th' school as well?"

"He's dead," Tahiri said, and okay, now the wibbly look came out, quickly covered for by her saying, "Don't give me a reason to punch you, and I won't have any warning to give."

"I'm sorry, lass," he said sincerely before following her change and flashing her a mischievous grin. "An' wit' all the folk here so different, how's a lad s'posed to know if he's givin' reason or not, hmm?"

"Good point," Tahiri conceded with a quick flash of a smile. "I can at least say that I won't punch you without good reason."
