"Aw, I think everyone's family is complicated in some form or another. I love my parents and have nothing to complain about, and I think magic is super cool. I've always wanted to see David Copperfield." Fiona seemed shy so Elle was being bright and friendly and perky. Her perfectly normal self!

"There should totally be another term for weird. Magic isn't weird. It's pretty!"

She didn't know about the magician, but she'd been allowed to read critical reviews of the novel.

"Oh, I don't know. If they did, I totally haven't seen it. I wonder how they would do that because everything is so real, you know? Like a reality tv show only not because the audience is right there and he's the only one entertaining. What a strange play that would be," she rambled. "Might be worth seeing!"

"We, uh, have a theatre here on the island," she said, joining in on the rambling, figuring she'd be helpful.

"They do plays. I think they're doing The Scottish Play right now. So you know."

"Omigod, that's totally cool. Do you like the theatre, Fiona? When do they perform because I'll have to go and you can come with me! It'll be super fun!"

"I've never actually been to one. My family had a lot of rules and there's a lot of things I've never tried. But a movie was fun."

"Yay! We'll try it together because here it will be totally new to me too," she said, feeling the need to be helpful and encouraging about everything. "They were strict? That's so frustrating when there is so much to do and see and what? A movie as in like only one? Because I might have misunderstood that seeing as everyone goes to the movies. It's the thing to do when you're a teenager."

"I had a list of 106 rules that I had to follow for my entire life until my birthday a couple of months ago," she explained, "and yes, just one. I went with my friend Griff."

There was a short pause.

"I didn't do most of the stuff you 'do' when you're a teenager."

"Omigod that's a lot of rules. I don't want to say anything about your parents that wouldn't be harmful in a negative way but wow, that's super strict. I can't think of one rule I had, or have now."

Elle decided she was going to show Fiona everything.

"We're going to have so much fun together! We'll go shopping! And go to the salon, and do you know if they have a hot tub here? We'll totally do that too! We can have sleepovers and eat junk food and go through my stack of Cosmopolitans!"

Really infectious. Fiona was actively grinning.

"There's a hair place, and the onsen is really nice. I've been to one sleepover, and I really really like shopping. My aunt Dallas promised to take me shopping in Paris, but I got sent off to school first. But there's a few shops here and a mall not too far from here."

And she'd get to the whole 'can't eat' thing when she needed to.

Elle and her boobs bounced excitedly. "I am super happy, seriously! I totally want to try the hot tub in the very near future. So unfortunate that you didn't get to go to Paris omigod. They have to die for shops and the fashions are fabulous. What kind of mall is it?" Elle was wary of malls. So many stores trying to sell knock off designer duds for an unbelievable price. Serena and Margot both told her that was the way it worked. Elle just thought people like that were vile.

Aw, Elle totally felt sorry for her. "It doesn't matter! We'll check it out and if nothing else buy a big fat pretzel and cute hats. Which oooh! Leto mentioned a hat shop here. I would love to get a cute hat. We should go!"

"That's Irulan's shop," Fiona replied, "and I got hats there the other week. She's very nice and her hats are... certainly interesting. You met Leto?"

"Interesting is super fun, isn't it? I met this girl, Harper, and she had on this hat today that was totally cute. More for a costume party but it was adorable that she wore it today to greet new people. I did! He's super friendly and his eyes are gorgeous. We had a pleasant conversation. Is he a friend of yours?"

"He's one of my best friends," she said, warmth entering her tone. No, she didn't have a crush on him, but he was very dear to her. She loved him very much, really.

"He was one of the first people to make me feel comfortable."

"Aw, that's so sweet! It's so nice to be welcomed, isn't it? I wasn't nervous too much coming here and everyone I've met so far has been super kind. Except for this village barbarian girl. She kills puppies and kittens and I think it's awful! She arrived in a sack of all things! I felt sorry for her because being bagged up like that is all kinds of illegal and then she had this sharp theatre prop and scared me." Elle didn't know the girl was inwardly laughing at her.

"She was. I met her this morning before we got on the bus. I think I should just avoid her and especially keep an eye on Bruiser." Blink. "Maybe I should send her an anonymous gift basket. She could just be having a bad day. She from somewhere in the northern west far far away. She said she was a ninja but it was obvious that she was a village heathen."

She wasn't sure if she'd call Ino a 'friend' but the girl wasn't anything to be frightened of.

"They're really' uh, how did she put this? "helpful. At leats, Ino is. And she's fun to work with."

"I thought ninja's covered themselves head to foot in black and lived their lives being stealthy. I guess TV is totally wrong about them. What does Ino do that you work with her for? I mean... are there like ninja lessons offered here or something?"

She blushed a little.

"Well, there's the reserves, that are so that we have kind of, well, training and a plan if something happens. There's the one for the fighters, the one for people who do magic, and the one for people who want to help with support. I worked with her on the reserves. Oh, and she helped me pick a flower for work."
