Yes, there were even more tents on the other side of the lawn.

Yes, the tables and chairs that had been set up there were still close to the ice cream.

She smiled at the blonde girl and waved. "Yuffie Kisaragi." She still had her nametag on too, which had 'the greatest ninja of Wutai' after her name.

"Ino," she said, by way of introducing herself, flopping down nearby. "How's your first day going?"

Give her a sec--

"...ninja, huh?"

"Yes," Yuffie said proudly. "And my day is going well. I sent my friend Tifa a picture of Hannibal in his boxers to show her how much more fun I'm having than she is."

She would have sent it to Cloud and Vincent, but they'd make faces and send her back sternly worded texts.

"Nice," she said, meaning it, and laughed. "Hannibal's good for stripping down, oh my yes. It's tradition, see, the shirtlessness."

"Really? Incentive for the females to come to the picnics then." Which, eye candy made almost everything better. "What other traditions should I know about?"

"It's not really a tradition," she said, tugging at her hair. "But it's a long standing thing that apparently dumping sparkles on boys makes them want to kiss other boys."

A beat.

"And for the shirtlessness, make sure you wear, like something under yours that you're happy to have seen 'cause sometimes the boys say we gotta play fair." Ino laughed. "I'm wearing a bikini top under, just in case."

Yuffie looked down at her usual form fitting top and frowned. "Newbies are exempt, right?"

"I think so?" Ino said, tilting her head at the sky. "I don't think it happens much to new kids 'less they're guys who look good for going with it."

"Okay. I'll know to be prepared for the next time then." She nodded and looked around for more shirtless people. "Where are you from?"

"Konohagakure no Sato," she said, with a grin. "Totally not on this world. It's a ninja village."

"I'm from Wutai, which is also totally not on this world, and sorta is a ninja village. It's more of a resort town now." No, she didn't sound happy about that.

"...how'd it go to from uh, ninja to resorts, if you don't mind me asking?"

Yuffie sighed. "There was a war and we lost, so the people who won banned our area from using magic. Without magic, we needed another way to bring in money and students, since we couldn't teach the old ways anymore."

"Magic, huh?" Ino asked, glancing at her sideways. "Like, an in-born thing? How could they ban that?"

"No, we need materia to use magic in my world." She stuck her hand in a pocket and pulled out a glowing red sphere. "This is a fire materia. I can use it to make fire and cast fire spells."

...

"...you got a place called Midgar in your world?" Ino asked, tucking her hands in her pockets while looking at the materia.

"Yep. It sort of got blown up a few weeks ago. Why?" She paused and sighed. "You know the crazy redheaded Turk too?"

A few weeks ago...

That meant different timeline.

"Yeah," she said, a bit sheepishly. "He's kinda awesome, actually."

She was one of his Rookies, after all.

"See, now, I've always thought he was annoying and fun to beat up, but everyone here likes him." Which was very mind boggling for Yuffie.

Maybe he changed here or something.

No, not Reno.

She laughed. "He's hard to dislike," Ino said, shrugging a bit. "He's just very..."

She waved one hand around.

"Himself. It's nice."

"Annoying, crazy, does insane things and looks pretty while doing it?"

Ooops, she hadn't meant to say that last bit.

"Not annoying," she said, considering that. "Definitely insane and pretty though--but he's got a girlfriend now, so careful with the ogling. Drinks a lot," she ticked off on her fingers, "talks a lot, has some interesting mood swings..."

"That one?"

"That's the one." And Yuffie still thought he was annoying. "And he has a girlfriend? Like, one and only one?"

"One and only and they're utter mad about each other," she said, smiling. "It's sweet."

"Wow." Yuffie was a bit shocked, because Reno sort of seemed like... a ladies man who would have six or seven girlfriends.

"If you tell me he was class president, I may have to go get myself checked for a head injury."
