Yes, the tables and chairs that had been set up there were still close to the ice cream.

By this time, Alex was feeling a little less hungover but that didn't mean he wasn't going to be taking off the sunglasses or cap anytime soon.

"You're looking a bit traumatised there," Rose commented, coming up beside Alex. "Rough night or did you get assigned another virginal roommate?"

"First night though it wasn't rough," Alex said, actually giving Rose a small, brief smile. "Just long. And filled with alcohol."

She smiled back, looking amused. "So totally worth the whole serial killer look," she said, gesturing to the sunglasses and hat.

"I looked a little rough," he admitted. "Didn't want to scare anyone off with my red eyes. And the sun is bright."

"I'm about to check to see if you have a fever," Rose teased. "If you're worried about scaring all the new kids off."

Yeah, she thought the bright sun was a much more obvious reason.

"I like the old kids better than the new kids." He knew the old kids and some of them he actually liked. "You met anyone?"

Rose looked embarrassed. "No?"

"Then, what have you been doing?" he asked, laughing. "Ogling hot boys?"

"Hey, you say that like it's not a good occupation!" she defended. "Which new kids have you met?"

"All of them," he lied. "I met them all."

"Awwww, Alex the Welcome Wagon," Rose smirked. "Did you wear a cute little apron too?"

"And a hat," he said, pointing to said hat. "And I was even nice. Are you impressed?"

"Totally," she agreed. "But now I want to see the apron. I hope it had ruffles."

"Oh, too bad, I went and burned it before I started smoking," Alex said, snapping his fingers. "Next time?"

"See, I'd've thought you'd wear the apron while smoking to regain your masculinity," Rose said, eyes dancing with mischief.

"Is an apron one of your kinks?" Alex asked because she was really stuck on this. "Like a present you can unwrap or something?"

"Now that you mention it," Rose said thoughtfully. "No. Definitely no."

"If I ever find myself in an apron, you'll be the first one I come find." Except not because he'd be burning the damn thing. "Why aren't you welcoming anyone?"

"Cause there are plenty of others eager to do it," Rose said. "And I'd rather wait and see who'll be interesting."

"So, you came to hang around me instead," he said, sighing melodramatically. "Must find me interesting, then."

"I came to mock you being hungover, and you started a conversation," Rose corrected. "So you seem to find me interesting."

"I can leave you alone with the new students," he said, shrugging and looking nonplussed. "Maybe one of them will grope you and you can break an arm."

She rolled her eyes, a flicker of emotion over her face. "Nah, I'll be a good girl at the picnic." That and she couldn't imagine breaking someone's arm over a threat to her. "So maybe I would rather talk to you."

"Was that really so hard to say?" he asked. Alex seemed to like girls that took the longest road to saying what they meant. "And I won't even taunt you with it."
