BWI - Portalocity Lounge [Friday Morning]

Chloe got off her flight from New York and followed the signs to the lounge. She dumped the duffle bag of clothes that Andrew had hastily purchased on the floor and slumped into one of the uncomfortable airport chairs.

She was still against this plan but she realized on the flight that sulking wouldn't make it any better so she was going to put on a brave face and make the most of it.

Layla sighed in relief as she dropped her bags on the ground and gave the group of students a cheerful wave and grin.

"Hi! I'm Layla Miller," she called out. "I know stuff."

Elena couldn't help a glance at the other girl, based on a comment like that.

"What's the square root of 753? How many feet are in a mile? What's the best book ever written? Who, in this room, has had the most sex?"

"27.4408455. 5280. Now are you talking about non-fiction, fiction, and what specific language? As for the sex?" she grinned. "You'll have to take a class with Captain Kirk. He's not here but he'll beat everyone's score. By the way? You look nice when you're not wearing a black suit."

Elena was laughing along with that, impressed despite herself. Until.

She froze, hand reaching for her holster and her eyes narrowing. She curled her fingers around the gun but didn't draw it. Not yet.

"Who sent you?" she asked harshly.

"I sent me," Layla said looking pretty calm and... still cheerful. "Don't worry. I know you're retired from being a Turk. No reason to pull anything on me."

The gun was reassuring; she wasn't going to let go of it just yet.

The Turks. Dammit. How much did the girl know?

"I'll decide that," she said. "When I know what you want, and why you're here."

Or the far more basic, friend or foe?

"I'm going to school," Layla replied with a grin. "Just like you. And Reno before that. It's not that weird is it?"

Elena's demeanor relaxed, somewhat.

"You know Reno?" she said. "Sorry, I didn't ... realize. It's a little touchy, that's all. The ... Turk thing."

Complicated.

"Not personally," Layla admitted. "But I know he goes to school here. Or he didn anyway."

"He graduated," Elena said, nodding. Some friend of Reno's, or a friend of a friend. No reason to panic. "Can you do me a favor?"

That didn't explain why a friend of a friend of Reno's would know her, on sight, but she'd file that.

"Depends," Layla replied. "Does it involve me dressing up like little Bo Peep?"

"No," Elena said, momentarily sidetracked. "... If it happens to come up, are you for or against the idea of dressing as little Bo Peep?"

Information like that was useful.

Mercenary work had that effect on people.
