TeeVee for Beginners, Friday Period Two

"We were going to talk about early TV today," Mitchell announced. He was looking just a little antsy. Might've been the monsters outside. "But considering the circumstances, I'll leave you to the television itself. Er... they used to stage TV more like plays back in the day, with programmes that had a completely new story with different writers and cast every airing. This is an example of a show a bit like that, focusing on the strange and unexplained."

Mitchell just wanted to sit down and watch TV and try not to think about what was going on outside. "Please stay in the class," he said, "I've never seen one of those things before." And he'd seen quite a lot. He held up a hand. "Just-- stay here. The administration will handle what's going on outside."

Then he snagged the remote and turned on the set. "See what you can learn from the television," he said, and draped himself over the couch.

After a beat, he added, "That goes twice for you, George."

Alex was perfectly fine with staying inside and watching television. He wasn't one to go outside when there were freaky alligator things walking around and trying to kill things.

Nuh uh.

Jack wasn't doing such a good job of listening today; his gaze kept wandering to the door. He wasn't daft enough to run into danger, but he still wanted to be a little closer to the action than class.

Penelope had no problem staying inside and away from reptile monsters that would like to eat her.

There were monsters outside. Monsters, monsters, monsters, and Zack had to be in class, watching television instead of out there beating them up and, and, and...

If people thought that he was squirmy any other time, the looking toward the door and the twitching and the wriggling was epic, today.

Dinah was watching. Really she was. Paying attention.

From over here by the window. Ooooo!

Adora was twitching to get outside. At least she always carried her sword and could transform on her way to the stables to pick up her beloved steed.

Oh yes, she was forming a plan. She felt a twinge of guilt that she wasn't paying attention to the professor, even.

Momoko wasn't really enthusiastic about class today. Why exactly did the school teach students about being heroes and yet make them be in class when monsters actually invaded?

Alex settled down on a couch and proceeded to watch television. If he fell asleep, well, he fell asleep.

Penelope thought that was one huge pot of stew (or whatever she was cooking) for one single woman.

This was almost silent, and the woman's home looked like some of the more rustic homes in Jack's own time. He liked it immensely better than the sitcom from last week -- largely because he could follow it.

As much as he could follow anything when he was thinking about alligators, at least.

Zack was sitting on the couch, sitting on his hands, forcing himself not to twitch too much while they watched the show.

Which, he had to admit, was a reallyreallyreally good show. The circumstances outside were really all that happened to be making it difficult for Zack to focus on the class, today.

Francine had seen this one before, but that was fine. It gave her something to mindlessly enjoy instead of worrying about a) Merlin's poor face, b) flashing the squirrels, c) generally failing at sex life. Oh, and alligators.

Sadly enough, Momoko was distracted a small bit by the TV. It took a few moments, due to the lack of pretty bouncing colour, but the really cool strange plot twist did have her gasping and pointing at the end. "Wha?! But... but...!"

Zack was trying to focus. Really. He was. He understood that school and classes were all very important, and- oh Gods there were monsters outside, here.

"With my sword," he chimed in, very helpfully. Very squirmy. "Which is in the weapons locker. Did you know there are monsters outside? They could be alien monsters. I should deal with that."

Squirm. Squirm. Wriggle.

"Well, last time I grabbed their weapons as well as using eskrima sticks and a big bat, but I think normal guns might work, if they don't have space shields," Dinah said. "On the other hand, trying to negotiate first is good, or at least find out what they want, then if they won't leave you can fight them off more effectively and please may I be excused to go kill alligators?"

"I'd stay inside and bake cookies for the people outside fighting the aliens," Francine said with a shrug. "Or maybe for the aliens, if we could bribe them or something."

"You need to know who they are and what they want, don't you?" Jack said. "You can't just run off and kill things -- you need a plan or you might make things worse. I'd go and find some books somewhere so I had the first clue what to do."

George was there, and he was not staring out the window every few seconds. Of course not. Not at all.

Just ignore the trembling going on as he did his best to suppress his instinct to flail.
