TeeVee for Beginners, Friday Period Two

"We were going to talk about early TV today," Mitchell announced. He was looking just a little antsy. Might've been the monsters outside. "But considering the circumstances, I'll leave you to the television itself. Er... they used to stage TV more like plays back in the day, with programmes that had a completely new story with different writers and cast every airing. This is an example of a show a bit like that, focusing on the strange and unexplained."

Mitchell just wanted to sit down and watch TV and try not to think about what was going on outside. "Please stay in the class," he said, "I've never seen one of those things before." And he'd seen quite a lot. He held up a hand. "Just-- stay here. The administration will handle what's going on outside."

Then he snagged the remote and turned on the set. "See what you can learn from the television," he said, and draped himself over the couch.

After a beat, he added, "That goes twice for you, George."

Alex was perfectly fine with staying inside and watching television. He wasn't one to go outside when there were freaky alligator things walking around and trying to kill things.

Nuh uh.

Jack wasn't doing such a good job of listening today; his gaze kept wandering to the door. He wasn't daft enough to run into danger, but he still wanted to be a little closer to the action than class.

Penelope had no problem staying inside and away from reptile monsters that would like to eat her.

There were monsters outside. Monsters, monsters, monsters, and Zack had to be in class, watching television instead of out there beating them up and, and, and...

If people thought that he was squirmy any other time, the looking toward the door and the twitching and the wriggling was epic, today.

Dinah poked Zack in the side to get his attention. "Gators!"

Non-sentient, hostile, dangerous, goldfish-piranha-bearing monsters!

"Gators!" Zack nodded as he turned to look at Dinah, wide-eyed. "Outside! Probably eating people!"

This was a big deal!

"Or at least biting and chomping and scaring them and scarring them!" Dinah bounced. Really, she shouldn't be happy about something to fight. Dreadfully dangerous. Wrong, wrong. Bounce. "We just have to wait a little while...."

"But classes are so looong," Zack whined. "And the biting and the chomping stuff is happening right now."

Want!

"I knoooow." Dinah gave Mitchell a wistful look. So cool, and yet, he didn't get monsters. Well, he was New. "But they won't all be gone by the time we get out. They never are."

"They're not?" Zack's reaction was now somewhere between a 'yay!' and a 'but, but, but!' "The townspeople, can they take care of themselves? They know to stay inside, right? Getting eaten kind of sucks."

"They know to stay inside," Dinah quickly assured him. "And the troopers will be out to protect and tell people who don't know about the latest invasion already. Mostly it's the new students and teachers you have to worry about, which is why we should be out there." Bounce of impatience.

"Class is over soon, right?"

Please? Yes?

Zack looked up at the clock. For what had to be about ten minutes.

And then the second hand finally clicked.

Sigh.

Dinah was watching. Really she was. Paying attention.

From over here by the window. Ooooo!

Adora was twitching to get outside. At least she always carried her sword and could transform on her way to the stables to pick up her beloved steed.

Oh yes, she was forming a plan. She felt a twinge of guilt that she wasn't paying attention to the professor, even.

Momoko wasn't really enthusiastic about class today. Why exactly did the school teach students about being heroes and yet make them be in class when monsters actually invaded?
