TeeVee for Beginners, Friday Period Two

"We were going to talk about early TV today," Mitchell announced. He was looking just a little antsy. Might've been the monsters outside. "But considering the circumstances, I'll leave you to the television itself. Er... they used to stage TV more like plays back in the day, with programmes that had a completely new story with different writers and cast every airing. This is an example of a show a bit like that, focusing on the strange and unexplained."

Mitchell just wanted to sit down and watch TV and try not to think about what was going on outside. "Please stay in the class," he said, "I've never seen one of those things before." And he'd seen quite a lot. He held up a hand. "Just-- stay here. The administration will handle what's going on outside."

Then he snagged the remote and turned on the set. "See what you can learn from the television," he said, and draped himself over the couch.

After a beat, he added, "That goes twice for you, George."

"... For what?"

Somehow, George thought that maybe he didn't actually want to know.

"To go out and fight stuff?" Dinah said, as if it should've been obvious. "Alligators! Spitting goldfish! Gotta be stopped." She nodded vigorously. "I need better running shoes and work-out clothes for this."

George stared. And maybe squealed, just a little. "You're going out to fight them?"

"Well, sure! They're not even intelligent or sentient, and they're attacking people!" To Dinah's mind, they were completely fair game. The whole part where she might get hurt again barely registered. "We have to make them leave!"

"... You do that," George said, staring at Dinah like she had two heads. "I'll be more than happy to stay in my room."

"Awww," Dinah said, feeling sad he didn't get it, then remembered that this was George's first invasion. "Watch out the window, at least. You'll be sorry you didn't even see it later. Promise!" She got to her feet. "C'mon, let's go. Dash to the dorms, and nothing will catch us, not even a goldfish."
