Art of Seduction [Wednesday, Period Four]

Once again class was held at the main campfire. The first thing the students would have noticed on arriving was a trestle table set up with various flowers, fans and leaflets.

"Today, we're going to be covering flirting," Bond began once the class had arrived. "The ability to flirt and to recognise when you are being flirted with in turn is one of the more valuable life skills you can acquire. Regardless of whether you actually intend to sleep with them, flirting with a skilled partner can be almost as good. If occasionally unhealthy for the ego.

"A large part of flirting involves a combination of conscious and unconscious body language," he continued. "Often a person will mirror or mimic the body language of a person they find attractive. Learning to pick up on and interpret these cues is often of immense aid." He continued in this vein for a while, explaining and demonstrating a range of cues.

"Often a society will evolve unique and arguably bizarre methods of flirtation. Two methods that have mostly fallen out of use were the use of fans to convey an elaborate system of signals." Bond picked up a fan and held it up before his face, fluttering it suggestively. "And floriography, also known as the flower language, which uses arrangements of flowers to much the same effect.

"One still current method of flirtation is the pick-up line, which I really would suggest you don't use as they tend only to work in cases where the user would be perfectly capable of flirting without them. In fact, over the years I've found that being yourself is often the most successful method of flirtation.

"Now for the rest of the class, I would like you to experiment with the various methods of flirting I've discussed with you today. Try flirting with a variety of your classmates and afterwards discuss with them why your attempts would or wouldn't have succeeded if it had been a real life attempt."

George did, at least, take the flower, but he didn't pay any attention to what message it was giving him. "Thanks," he said, smiling at Emma. "I, uh. I don't really have much experience with this."

"First step is to remember to breathe," Emma murmured, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Relax. It's class, darling. None of us are going to bite you."

"Yet."

"No! No biting, absolutely no biting at all whatsover."

Yeah, you could see the flail coming.

"I- I mean. Um. Yes! Breathing. Breathing is good. In, and out, and-" He stopped. Followed his own advice -- deep breath in, deep breath out. It didn't help. "Um. Hello."

"Hello." Emma smiled and held out her hand. "Frost, Emma Frost. And you might be...?"

"George Sands," he offered, taking Emma's hand. If her telepathy was strengthened at all by physical contact, she'd likely pick up low levels of panic. ... To be fair, she'd likely pick that up anyway, given how strongly he was radiating it.

Even if she weren't telepathic.

"Are you new, too?" George asked. "To the island, I mean. This term."

She really didn't need her telepathy at all to pick up on his terror, what with how he was practically twitching, and Emma had shored up her shields after her encounter with Jack anyway.

"I am," she replied sweetly. "I was a bit late and missed the newbie picnic, but I made it anyway."

George nodded. "I'm glad you did!" he said. "Make it, I mean. I'm not glad you missed the newbie picnic, it was actually maybe kinda fun? If you're into that sort of thing. And there was food, too, of course, it being a picnic and all."

"Food?" Emma laughed. "Darling, I make it a point not to miss any events with free food. I'm a growing girl, you know."
