Criminal Justice: Wednesday, Period Three

Students for the Criminal Justice workshop were notified to meet at the main campfire CAMPFIRE! for their workshop.

As the students gather the first thing the would probably notice is there is a large truck sitting next to the campfire. How it got there on an island with weetiny streets? Sorry. Gibbs isn't telling. Next to the truck is a stack of large plastic cases resembling tackle boxes. Each box was labelled with the name of the students.

Gibbs himself is standing next to the truck with his ever present cup of coffee in his hand. "Welcome to the Criminal Justice workshop," he said once everyone had arrived. "I'm Jethro Gibbs. I've spent the last 16 years working for NCIS. If you've never heard of it, I wouldn't be surprised. Think of it as the FBI for the Navy and Marines. For the next several weeks I'm going to be drilling into your heads the basics of investigating a criminal case."

He paused long enough to take a sip of coffee before continuing.

"First off, introductions. Everyone tell me your name and what you hope to get out of this course," Gibbs said as he began handing out a forensic equipment checklist. "After that I want you to go through the van and fill up your forensic kits. Get everything on the list except for the cameras. We'll have to share those as there aren't enough to go around. Make sure you bring your forensic equipment to each class Or you're fired. When you're done with your kits you'll need to take your own fingerprints. This is standard procedure in case you accidentally touch something at a crime scene without gloves."

He then gave everyone a glare of warning.

"Which we shouldn't have to do because you'll be wearing gloves the entire time we're investigating a crime scene. But that's another class. Now tell me who you are, get your kits together and get your fingerprints taken."

[OCD is up! Please read OOC note regarding Gibbs!]

As Gibbs lectured, Zayne couldn't help but be thrown by the length of the checklist. He was much more used to the Jedi method of walking into any situation with nothing but his wits, his lightsaber, and somebody to come in when he'd made a mess of things to help him out.

Okay, the kit would be smaller than another person. But it didn't seem like it would be MUCH smaller.

Dinah had been looking forward to this class more than any other, so forgive her if she's bouncing. She'd taken online courses about Forensics, but those were chemistry and physic courses modified for her interests and short attention span by her sister. This was real investigation! Yes!

Hinata studied her list intently as he spoke, part of her mind on the lecture, and tried to figure out how much of this was used back home, if any.

At least, she thought, it did sound interesting.

Momoko was looking forward to this workshop! How could she not? It had 'justice' in the title! She glanced over the list and listened eagerly to the lecture.

Someone had to start things off, right? "I'm Griff, 16, and new. How's it you got the van up here?" Because that was just brilliant.

Huh, introductions. Well, she supposed that would be a good thing, considering she was with a whole group of people she didn't know. And besides, this was the one class she signed up for she was the most enthused about; better make the fullest of it!

"Hi, I'm Chie," she began amiably, if a little awkwardly. Putting herself in front of everyone like this wasn't one of her finer points. "I'm hoping this will be a good step for what I want to learn. After I graduate, I wanna try to become a cop, so I thought this would be perfect."

"I'm Ben Skywalker," he said, "and I spent a year working investigations for a police force back home. I wanted to learn the differences between here and there."

"Dinah Lance, I plan on being a private investigator, and I want to learn the basics of how to investigate on your own, and they let you drive this truck here? I thought that was illegal," she asked, staring at the big truck, then over at the footpaths. Maybe it was magic, and he just wasn't telling?

"Anemone, and I like riddles and solving puzzles," she answered. "I don't trust obvious answers."

She had been burned badly by trusting the obvious answer once. Never again.

"I'm Turtle Wexler," she started, "and I'm a lawyer. That should pretty easily cover why I have an interest in this class."

This was...an insanely long list, Ben decided as he put everything together.

He missed the forensics droid.

Helen quickly and efficiently prepared her forensics kit and then took her fingerprints. Neatly, even, and with minimal ink.

Buffy was here, and listened all through class. Even if this part didn't have much to do with her. Slayer forensics tended to be more along the lines of "Well they have two little holes in their neck, gee, I wonder what killed this person?"
