Students for the Criminal Justice workshop were notified to meet at the main campfire ~~CAMPFIRE!~~ for their workshop.

As the students gather the first thing the would probably notice is there is a large truck sitting next to the campfire. How it got there on an island with weetiny streets? Sorry. Gibbs isn't telling. Next to the truck is a stack of large plastic cases resembling tackle boxes. Each box was labelled with the name of the students.

Gibbs himself is standing next to the truck with his ever present cup of coffee in his hand. "Welcome to the Criminal Justice workshop," he said once everyone had arrived. "I'm Jethro Gibbs. I've spent the last 16 years working for NCIS. If you've never heard of it, I wouldn't be surprised. Think of it as the FBI for the Navy and Marines. For the next several weeks I'm going to be drilling into your heads the basics of investigating a criminal case."

He paused long enough to take a sip of coffee before continuing.

"First off, introductions. Everyone tell me your name and what you hope to get out of this course," Gibbs said as he began handing out a forensic equipment checklist. "After that I want you to go through the van and fill up your forensic kits. Get everything on the list except for the cameras. We'll have to share those as there aren't enough to go around. Make sure you bring your forensic equipment to each class Or you're fired. When you're done with your kits you'll need to take your own fingerprints. This is standard procedure in case you accidentally touch something at a crime scene without gloves."

He then gave everyone a glare of warning.

"Which we shouldn't have to do because you'll be wearing gloves the entire time we're investigating a crime scene. But that's another class. Now tell me who you are, get your kits together and get your fingerprints taken."

"My name is Helen Haras-Uquara and I hope to learn more about how dealing with crimes and criminals is done in this world."

"Well you'll certainly get plenty of that," Gibbs replied. "What's law enforcement like where you are from?"

"The priests of Uquar are in charge of all knowledge, both worldly and religious, and they are also the best trained soldiers and highest authority for all disputes and crimes," Helen explained. "Justice is swift and punishment can be very harsh. It is not an easy world. As the Hand of Uquar, if I am allowed to return I would most likely be involved in such things."

All of that quickly flew right over Gibbs' head.

"Uh-huh," Gibbs replied. "Right. Well hopefully we can help out with that... hand... thing."

He made a mental note to look up Uquar in the atlas later.

She blinked at him. "I do believe that if the best priests and magic users from my world were unable to do anything about it... well, perhaps you have abilities they do not. Should I demonstrate?"

"Why? Are you going to pull a rabbit out of a hat?" Gibbs asked.

She blinked again. "A rabbit out of a hat? No. My talent is rather different from some simple sleight of hand trick. It is inherent to who I am, what sets me apart from others on my world."

[occ: She is willing to demonstrate if you'd like to break Gibb's brain a little or have him thinking he's hallucinating. ;) ]

Gibbs shrugged. "Knock yourself out, kid."

She sighed and quickly turned her arm into a variety of things she'd seen on the list for the forensics kits - a pair of tweezers, a magnifying glass, a brush, a small pair of scissors - and ended with her favorite - an elephant's trunk which she let snuffle up the Gibb's arm.

Gibbs jumped back a step as he pushed the trunk away.

"What the fuck was that?"

"The Hand of Uquar, as I said," Helen said patiently. "I can turn it into pretty much anything I wish."

Gibbs quickly composed himself. "Right. Fine. Neat trick. However for this class you'll need to use the tools in the box. Anything that comes off of your person to use in a criminal investigation could compromise any case."

Plus it was weird.

"Of course," she said politely. "I would never want to risk that."
