Library [5.12]

Anemone had waited until first-thing this morning to snag a portal back to Fandom, and as a result had needed to run from the Causeway up to the school, barely managing to skid into the library on time, Gulliver hanging on to her for dear life.

She dumped her bags behind the desk, taking a seat and kicking her feet up while she looked over her class schedule. Four classes this summer, and for once none of them sounded absolutely mind-numbing.

She clearly owed Maria big. Really big.

...and it looked like it was a good thing she'd come back today instead of skipping work, since she had two classes. Yikes.

Humming happily, Anemone started wandering the stacks, tidying up before she had to leave for second period. Hopefully Dr. Jones wouldn't mind too much if she had to close the library for a little bit...

Anemone's around somewhere, just follow the sounds of the singing.

Valentine found herself up early, with some time to spare before her first workshop, but there was a library. Of course she'd have to at least check it out, if not spend copious amounts of time there. She slipped in, and into the stacks to start just aimlessly checking out titles, wondering exactly where that singing was coming from.

The singing was currently coming from the 400s, as Anemone sat on the floor and sorted through dictionaries. The Spanish section had set up their own Inquisition and had been trying to run out the other languages again, and Anemone was amusing herself by making up nonsense songs with the words on the covers.

And Valentine was actually working her way in that direction, not to follow the music so much as it seemed that she was just drawn toward language in her wandering.

And promptly tripping over one of the Spanish dictionaries. She faltered, catching herself and her surprise.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition. Not even a Wiggin.

"Oh," she said, looking down at the book, and that's when she also noticed the girl with the pink hair surrounded by more.

"Hello."

Anemone looked up. "Oh," she said. "Hello. I didn't hear you come in. Did you need help finding something?"

Valentine shook her head. "I was just looking around," she said. "What about you? Or do you usually just pull a bunch of books off the shelf like that?"

"Well, it was the fault of the Spaniards," Anemone responded, making a face at one pile. "They were pushing out the other languages again. It's not as bad as when philosophy and psychology get into it with religion, but it's still vexing."

She grinned up at the girl. "Anemone, library aide. They pay me to make them behave, although I'd probably just pull them off the shelves for fun, too."

"Valentine, library observer. Are the books really interacting, or do you just have an astonishing imagination? I'd normally just think it was the latter, but, around here, the former seems just as true."

"The library does what it wants to do, and Special Collections is ten times worse," Anemone said cheerfully. "One day, my books turned into kittens, I've had a giant bird around, and there were pi-rats."

"I do have a good imagination and an odd sense of humor, but even I'm not this crazy." Usually.

"So much," Valentine noted, "for expecting some quiet time in the library, then, huh?"

"When it's quiet? It's planning something," Anemone said seriously. "Although you might be the first real patron, if you make repeat trips. I go weeks without seeing a soul."

Valentine's eyes shifted toward the bookshelves. "Yeah," she agreed. "It's always the quiet ones you've got to watch out for."
