Beach Play - Tuesday - Period 5

Of course a class on beach play would be held at the beach. You'd be silly to think otherwise.

It was a nice day out and Marshall was standing out near the water in his swimming trunks and a t-shirt, waiting for everyone to gather around him. There were blankets set out for people to sit on and a basket filled with towels and sunblock for everybody. There was also a box filled with spare (and brand new, holy god he wasn't gross) bathing suits and trunks just in case people forgot or didn't own swimsuits of their own. When it seemed like everyone was there, Marshall started to speak.



"Hi there, I'm Marshall Eriksen and this is Beach Play. It's pretty much what it sounds like. We're going to focus on a different game or activity to do at the beach every week and, hopefully you'll have fun doing it. There's not much learning involved here but it's summer and learning should be banned from this season anyway." What a good teacher. "On nice days like today we'll meet here at the beach and on less-than-nice days we'll meet in the Danger Shop. Please wear your bathing suits each week and for the love of god, don't forget to put on sunblock. I'm giving you each a bottle of your own. I don't want to deal with lobster students. Unless they're like mutant lobster students with claws and stuff. Then that'd be pretty cool."

Marshall paused while he wondered if human-lobster hybrids would taste as good as regular lobster did.

"Anywaaaaaaaays today we'll be doing the more obvious of beach activities: swimming. I hate it when people are at the beach and don't swim. Seriously, get in the damn water. We know it's cold at first but you get used to it," Marshall said. God, that was annoying. "Swimming's just plain fun and good exercise. It's also fun to splash people and get into races and stuff. So go ahead and get in the water and have fun. Hopefully you all know how to swim. If you don't, well, either you're gonna get a lesson from me or you can hang in the shallower parts."

Marshall hoped he wouldn't have to teach anyone how to swim. The Eriksen way was to just toss someone in the deep end and hope they figure it out before they drown. It was out of love, really.

"Oh, and your TA's are Jess and Romeo," Marshall said, pointing to each boy in turn. "They're around to answer any questions, to get a nice tan and to make sure none of you drown. So I'd stay on their good sides if you want them to save you."

Another pause.

"...that last bit was a joke. They'll save you even if you suck."

The water was cold but hey, he'd get used to it right. He just hoped he didn't freeze to death before he got used to it.

"Two classes together again? I'm going to start thinking you're stalking my schedule," Adora told him, sending a flick of water Hannibal's direction.

"It's because I'm infatuated with you," he said, turning his head away from the spray but laughing. "You know me."

"Right! I forgot that part," she rolled her eyes with an amused look. "So tell me, friend, do you think the TAs are trained?"

"I would hope so," Hannibal said, looking at the TA's. "I don't think Professor Eriksen would let someone be in charge that couldn't actually help someone if they got in trouble."

"Well, if anything," Hannibal said, trying to be reassuring, "I know how to swim. I can help if there's a need to help. But, hopefully, there's no need."

"Hannibal," Adora laughed. "You're so sweet! No, I'm sure there won't be need for you to rescue anyone." He was so Bo.

"Well, I'm sure someone would beat me to it," he said, smiling knowingly at her.

"If someone didn't, I would be in trouble with a rainbow spirit," she grinned. "So how much do you love the cabins? Are they not fantastic?"

Adora was a competent swimmer, but she didn't go into the water past her knees for a while, getting used to the temperature and watching those around her.

Prince Edward ran for the water, splashing in further and further, and then dove in a seemingly perfect arch under the water.

He was an excellent swimmer!

Jaina had no problem just getting in the water, cold or not. She adjusted to the temperature pretty quickly, and really did just kind of like swimming around for a while.

Priestly went into the water like a fish with a very large, colorful fin on its head.

Said "fin" wouldn't last long in the face of the water, but, hey. Priestly was in this for the fun, not the fashion.

"Priest!" Edward shouted with an attempted splash in his direction.

"Take it easy," he replied. "I can do that too." He had no idea what that meant, exactly. "Let us have a night out again, my friend! Ah-hah, but I truly wish it!"

It took Alex a moment to get used to the water, but hey, she went in anyway. She loved this class all ready.

Once Eleanor had found a swimsuit, though still boggling over the fact that people wore these things out in public, she stuck to wading in only to her knees.

And sitting in the water because at least then it covered up what she shouldn't be showing off.

This was beyond scandal back home. People would have been falling over dead at the sight of so many half-clothed.
