Beach Play - Tuesday - Period 5

Of course a class on beach play would be held at the beach. You'd be silly to think otherwise.

It was a nice day out and Marshall was standing out near the water in his swimming trunks and a t-shirt, waiting for everyone to gather around him. There were blankets set out for people to sit on and a basket filled with towels and sunblock for everybody. There was also a box filled with spare (and brand new, holy god he wasn't gross) bathing suits and trunks just in case people forgot or didn't own swimsuits of their own. When it seemed like everyone was there, Marshall started to speak.

"Hi there, I'm Marshall Eriksen and this is Beach Play. It's pretty much what it sounds like. We're going to focus on a different game or activity to do at the beach every week and, hopefully you'll have fun doing it. There's not much learning involved here but it's summer and learning should be banned from this season anyway." What a good teacher. "On nice days like today we'll meet here at the beach and on less-than-nice days we'll meet in the Danger Shop. Please wear your bathing suits each week and for the love of god, don't forget to put on sunblock. I'm giving you each a bottle of your own. I don't want to deal with lobster students. Unless they're like mutant lobster students with claws and stuff. Then that'd be pretty cool."

Marshall paused while he wondered if human-lobster hybrids would taste as good as regular lobster did.

"Anywaaaaaaaays today we'll be doing the more obvious of beach activities: swimming. I hate it when people are at the beach and don't swim. Seriously, get in the damn water. We know it's cold at first but you get used to it," Marshall said. God, that was annoying. "Swimming's just plain fun and good exercise. It's also fun to splash people and get into races and stuff. So go ahead and get in the water and have fun. Hopefully you all know how to swim. If you don't, well, either you're gonna get a lesson from me or you can hang in the shallower parts."

Marshall hoped he wouldn't have to teach anyone how to swim. The Eriksen way was to just toss someone in the deep end and hope they figure it out before they drown. It was out of love, really.

"Oh, and your TA's are Jess and Romeo," Marshall said, pointing to each boy in turn. "They're around to answer any questions, to get a nice tan and to make sure none of you drown. So I'd stay on their good sides if you want them to save you."

Another pause.

"...that last bit was a joke. They'll save you even if you suck."

"Well, uh." He looked around. "Romeo, probably. We can be civil but, yeah. Not exactly friendly."

"The TA?" Adora hissed. "But he's so nice and friendly and polite--oh and he was married to Angela!" Of course they should be friends! "And that was how you two got together!" Details.

"He was married to Angela," Hannibal said, emphasizing that word. "And I wasn't. I got jealous."

And still kind of could be.

"It was the push that got us together. I still can't really be chummy with him."

"Aww," Adora thought her friend very adorable and in need of much help. "You boys and your jealousy."

"It's a thing," he said, shrugging. "I don't think there's anyone I hate."

He, unfortunately, would do that in a few years. Oh, canon.

"So, that's good, right?"

"Excellent news!" Because hate was for evil. "Hate is bred from misunderstanding and not seeing things from another person's point of view." She was a walking PSA.

"You've never hated?" he asked curiously.

"Well, I can't say that." She had been brainwashed after all. "But the hate I thought I felt at the time was not my own."

"It's okay," Hannibal said soothingly. "We've all hated what we felt at one point or another."

"Is that so? Well, I certainly don't hate this lovely water, cold as it might be."

"Not cold on Eternalia?" He'd get the name right one day.

"Etheria," she smiled. "It's only cold when Frosta's around." Adora paused. "That sounded not the way it was intended."

"Frosta?" he repeated. "I don't remember the kids saying her name. She a bad guy?"

Adora giggled. "No, she's just an overly friendly friend. One who's very fond of my brother Adam."

"Is he fond of her back?" Hannibal wondered.

"Oh Sorceress no! He hides. It's adorable."

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Your brother sounds kind of wimpy," Hannibal said even if he knew Adam wasn't that wimpy. "I so wanna meet him."

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"He's not wimpy," Adora sighed. "He's just...Adam. It probably would only hurt your opinion to know his cat is named Cringer."

"Where'd that come from?" Hannibal asked. "Family name?"

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, his pet tiger is literally afraid of everything," she replied. "He's not quite Spirit all the time."

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Everything?" Hannibal repeated. "Uh. Doesn't that get difficult?"

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, when Adam's friend comes around he brings Battle Cat along with him," Adora explained. "It's a calming thing."

Did he know she had a pegasus unicorn? Hmm.

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Opposites attract, I guess," Hannibal said. "Does Adam like Perfuma?"

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] fabulous-secret.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know that they've met, though she was on the list of people I intend to bring for a visit when I get the chance," Adora told him so innocently, really.

Re: Swim!

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal stared. He hadn't even met Perfuma and he was dreading that. "Seriously?"
