Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

"They're my favorite," Kaylee enthused, beaming at the new girl. "Hi!"

Okay, even Parker couldn't resist smiling back to that. "Hi. I'm Parker. I'm new."

"Hi! I'm Kaylee," she said, waving. "I ain't new at all. Been here a whole year!"

"Yeah? Do you know anything about people shooting lightning?"

Kaylee's eyes were huge. "Ooooh. No, ain't never seen that, but it wouldn't really surprise me if someone could, here."

"My school assigned big sister was saying people did that here," Parker explained.

"Who's your sis?" she asked excitedly. "People got all kinds of powers here, so s'probably true."

"Triela," Parker said. "She's from Rome."

"I know her!" Kaylee said happily. "She wouldn't steer you wrong, nope. Where're you from?"

"Nowhere in particular," Parker said vaguely. "I'm a foster kid. They keep moving me around."
