Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

"Does that mean you get presents three times a year?"

"No. I just celebrate the one on my ID, since it's the same day as the old man's." No need to remember a different day, when he did bother to get gifts that is.

Claire nodded. "So how old are you?"

"Sixteen." Jon grinned. "Why? Planning my birthday present already? You have until October."

"Just wondering," Claire said. "I just turned sixteen last month."

"Yes, but here is the important thing. What year are you from?" Because that totally mattered.

"Right," she sighed. "It's 2007 at home for me. You?"

"2004." Jon grinned. "So, I have to know. Who do I bet on in the Superbowl next year?"

Claire laughed. "Have you ever seen ~~meta for Back to the Future~~."

"Yep. And listened to a real astrophysicist rip apart the science. It was hilarious."

"So, I don't know if you've noticed, but most of the guys around here are shirtless," Claire said. "Apparently it's a tradition."

Jon just blinked at her a few times and then laughed. "So, this whole conversation has been you buttering me up to get my shirt off?"

"You brought me a soda," she reminded him. "I'm just trying to be helpful so you can fit in better."

"How do you know someone didn't tell you that just to get you to embarrass people," he asked. He was taking off his shirt though.

"Because I've seen a bunch of shirtless guys," Claire said, pointing out a few. "And even a few girls."

Jon rolled his eyes and tucked his shirt into his back pocket. He grinned at Claire. "There. Happy?"

Claire grinned. "Now I think we're true Fandomites."

"Sure." He sat down and looked around. "Okay, so maybe I am."

"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked.

Jon just grinned at her.

Claire bit her lip and then decided the hell with it. She was wearing a cami under her shirt anyway.

She pulled it off and tied it around her waist.

"Happy?"

"See, now we both fit in!" He was going to like it here.

"Go us," she said with a grin.

"Now, we just have to hope we don't get bit by gremlins." Here's hoping he didn't just jinx them.

"... gremlins?"

No one had mentioned them yet.
