Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

"Tim," Turtle repeated, nodding, giving him a firm and professional handshake. "Nice to meet you, Tim."

"Same," Riggins said, not used to getting a handshake like that from a girl. "You been here long, Turtle?"

"This'll be my fourth year," said Turtle, with no small amount of pride. "I came in for the long haul."

"Christ," Riggins said, looking impressed. "That's...wow. I don't know if I could do boarding school for that long."

"It's not so bad. I mean, look at it this way. All four years of high school without your parents breathing down your neck and dictating what you do."

"Well I didn't have that before. Just a brother," Riggins said. "He was a pain in the ass though so I can see where you're coming from."

"What about th--oh, no, no. They're still alive," Riggins said. "They're just not around."

Which may actually be worse.

"Well, sure, but still," Turtle shrugged a little. "Okay, well, I envy you a little because I wish my mother weren't around so much because she's a nag and awful, but it'd really suck if my dad wasn't around."
