Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Since the area with all the informational signs was bound to get a bit clogged up, even more tables and chairs had been set up on the lawn, in a slightly different spot.

Sookie wasn't quite sure she was done being a new kid. She tucked herself off to the side to quietly watch the new people, occasionally venturing out with her mind (though for the most part she tried to keep her shields up as tight as possible.)

"Are you excited?" Zayne asked, walking over. "We get to pass the torch and tell them how weird this place is."

"Maybe they'll get real lucky and actually be used to the weirdness by the time they get some zombies or a gremlin bites them," Sookie offered.

"I doubt that'll happen," Zayne said. "I didn't get a gremlin bite until April and it was still surprising."

"I still haven't!" Sookie said proudly. "Though it kind of seems almost like a rite of passage. What happened during yours?"

"You're lucky. I thought I was some kind of musician," Zayne said. "The Journalism teacher and two guys from town performed with me on the roof of Mooby Land. I'm still not even sure how we got up there."

"Magic," Sookie said, completely believing it. "Hey, if little monsters can inject hallucinogens into us, who's to say they can't teleport us places or something, too?"

"Oh, that's a terrifying thought," Zayne said. "As if they didn't worry me enough already, there's that now."

Nothing in particular drew Jack to the quiet blonde girl, only his native desire to meet as many people as possible.

"Are you having a good time?" he asked. "I'm new, so I'm still trying to make sense of it all."

"I'm less new," she said, smiling lightly and tossing off a little wave. "So it's only just a tiny bit less overwhelming for me. Anything in particular throwin' you off?"

"Well, it was 1899 when I left Baltimore this morning," Jack said with a little grin (though his accent was English), "and it's a hundred and ten years later here. I think I need to understand that before I can understand anything else."

She winced. "Yeah, I can sympathize. I'm displaced only a few years, myself." She tilted her head. "Baltimore, Maryland, though?"
bitten_notshy: (considering this)

"Yes, but we hadn't been there log. We emigrated from Europe in March," Jack explained.

'We' was him and Sebastien; he missed Sebastien, and threw an idle thought to getting word to the vampire about how strange this school was. "What year was it for you at home?"

"1999," she said, shrugging. "Not too far off, by comparison. And I'm from Louisiana, so I'm not even too far from home geographically. Whereabouts in Europe?"

Sookie might have been a little bit fascinated by the accent and all. Even after a semester in Fandom, she was still a small-town girl at heart.
bitten_notshy: (this is crazy)

"We were in Spain last," Jack said. "My guardian likes to travel, though, so we'd lived all over the continent."

Jack had moved around a lot, for his age. There were good things and bad things about it, but there were likely good things and bad things about small town life, too.

"This is the farthest I've ever been from Bon Temps," she admitted shyly. "You're so lucky."
bitten_notshy: ('cause I'm cute)

"I suppose so, in some ways," Jack said, with the shrug of one who wasn't sure how much good the travel had done him. "Is Bon Temps so bad? I've never been so far south as Louisiana."
