Phys Ed: Week 15, Period 1 (Fri. 4/24)

There were handwavy notifications of gym class taking place in the Danger Shop.

And when the students marched into the classroom today they would find that Worf was there looking rather smug.

That's because Ronon had decided to let Worf run the class today.

"I am in charge today," Worf growled. "And for your final exam you will be rappelling down this mountain."

For indeed that's what the Danger Shop was configured for.

"However since this is the final exam," Worf growled. "I thought it should be more... challenging."

Which probably explained the growling Klingon warriors situated on various points of the mountain. With phasers.

"Your test is simple. Get down the mountain. Don't die." Worf replied tossing instructions out to the students. "Q'pla!"

Somewhere in the classroom, Ronon was amused by all of this. As he should be.

[OCD is up!]

It took three times (including the debacle of the second try, where he tried to time the rappel to collide with one of the Shootying Klingons because one hit him the first time on purpose, but Jack made it down alive.

Claire got shot about three nanoseconds after she pushed off at the top of the cliff.

She didn't really die, so she decided she didn't care and rappelled down to the base with the alarm sounding. Stupid gym class.

Jill started trying to rappel down the mountain. About two seconds later she bounced off the mountainside and shouted, "OW!" Then she got shot.

Rinse, repeat. Over and over again.

Annja got shot about halfway down. She growled in a very unladylike fashion and went back up to start again.

When you were used to being in situations like this and having people shooting to kill you, you weren't about to let some high school final defeat you.

Anemone had been horribly confused the first time the alarm sounded, as the shot had hit a non-lethal area, and she should have been able to continue.

Still, she started over, this time playing ping-pong-Klingon on her way down, just because she could, and it made her descent unpredictable enough to dodge most of the incoming weapons fire.

It took her three tries to complete the run successfully, but she still bounded back up to do it again. This was fun!

Ben had been through this scenario a few too many times in real life to be anything but insanely fast going down the mountain.

He thought the rappel line was kind of amusing, but figured if he just launched himself for freefall, someone would yell.

After five false starts involving getting hit by Klingons, using assorted defensive mechanisms like offering the fake Klingons bribes or making fun of their serious expressions, Priestly finally realized that he was looking at this all wrong.

He wasn't trying to keep the Klingons from shooting at him or aiming at him well. He was trying to keep the Klingons from actually hitting him.

And, hell, he'd spent years on a football field trying to keep large heavy guys from hitting him.

So on his sixth trip down the mountain, he went for rappelling very very fast with slightly jarring stops here and there to keep him from getting up too much speed and momentum (thank god for gloves), while swinging around the rope and occasionally hanging upside down to keep his various body parts out of the path of the phasers.

It really probably shouldn't have worked. Lord knew he looked like an idiot. But he made it down.

WOO!

Navigating treacherous landscapes, being shot at by big scary guys who wanted him dead, all this final was missing was a gaggle of monsters, and it would have been just like home.

Needless to say, Reno did well. And might have taken a few detours with the express purpose of kicking some of those guys in the face on the way down.

Adam was used to being shot at by monsters and things from space. Just not while rappelling down a mountain.

On the first try, he made it halfway down before he actually got hit. The second time was a charm, though.

The first few times Liz attempted the course she got shot but on her fourth attempt she was able to successfully complete the course.

Momoko was sure she could do this, rappelling was just controlled falling, and that was like flying, right? And she was used to flying and evading things, so she could easily do this, right? Right?

On the third try, she finally made it down without getting hit. Do not ask her how she did it; she wouldn't be able to explain even if she wasn't growling under her breath about stupid unfair aliens with stupid fake blasters on stupid fake mountains.

K-Mart was not a fan of this. Not at all.

But she managed to get through it in record time. Which, really, just consisted of only getting shot three times.

With every trip she took down the mountain, Éowyn got a little further and tried to memorize where the shooters were stationed. There was definitely a lot of luck involved when she finally made it all the way down.
