Movie Appreciation: Week 15, Period 3 (Fri. 4/24)

The final was not on From Justin to Kelly. Did Ronon look that cruel? No.

Instead there was a full (and free) concession stand in the Danger Shop auditorium when students arrived and a professor standing up front with a stack of papers. "Okay, it's final exam time. You guys suffered well through last week's horror, so today there's snacks and a showing of Visitor. My team back home is a big on this one." Other than the chick who had the nightmares of Teyla's unborn child being a Wraith and ripping out of her stomach. But we could all forget her easily.

"Seniors, good luck next weekend and onward. Everybody else, I'll see you in the fall."

"Last final, wanted to go out buggin' you." Oh how his smile could be both proud and likely to irk Rodney.

John's smile was successful. "It's nice to see how much you've grown while we've been here," Rodney glared. "I'm referring, of course, to your hair."

"Ha ha, Rodney," John said, dragging out the name. "I just cut it. You looking forward to next weekend's events? Bringing in the fam?"

Rodney rolled his eyes. "Graduating, yes. Family, not so much. Are you?"

"Oddly enough I'm thinking along the same lines there," John admitted, concerned for his well being if he was agreeing with Rodney.

Rodney nodded. As far as he was concerned, people should be agreeing with him all the time. "I'm going to work it so I spend as little time as possible around my parents before starting at university."

"That's a good plan...okay, there has got to be something wrong with this picture if I'm agreeing with you twice in a row."

"Hey, maybe you really are growing up," Rodney pointed at John excitedly and smiled. It might seem a little frightening.

John leaned away with a raised eyebrow. "Man do I not envy the kids at your new school."

Poor John was clueless.

"I know," Rodney sighed. "It'll be impossible for them to shine once they're in my presence," he said sincerely.

"Because all others pale in comparison," John said sarcastically, not that he presumed Rodney would get the sarcasm there.

Rodney had a bit of a blind spot when it came to sarcasm directed at himself.

"It's my fate to stand alone," he nodded.

"Because everyone else got knocked down by your massive ego," John filled in. "So what school is getting honored by your presence?"

"Intellect. My ego is perfectly reasonable," Rodney corrected. "I decided to go with Stanford. The scholarship offers from Cal Tech and MIT were comparable, but the faculty at Stanford has published more interesting papers recently." Which was probably more than John wanted to know.

No he did not.

"Stanford? No, you're not going to Stanford." That was John's school.

"Um, yes I am. I just said I was." Now, Rodney was confused.

"But I'm going to Stanford." John couldn't figure out how this had happened without him knowing.

Rodney stared. "They let you into Stanford?" Yeah, because that was really the point.

John had to pause and be offended. "Why shouldn't they let me in?"

"Oh, well, I mean you're more with the..." he made a gesture that could indicate flying. Or, possibly, swimming with dolphins. "You know. And not as much the academics."

"Hey, it takes some pretty heavy skill to..." Was Rodney swimming? John thought maybe so. "I'm smart enough, okay. Besides, I got in."

"True," Rodney conceded. "Though you have to admit it's easy for people to forget that you're smarter than you act most of the time." That was actually something of a compliment coming from him.
