Sam had managed to wake up before his alarm for once, and when he couldn't go back to sleep, he got up and just started his day early. He got to the library with plenty of time to spare, even with the coffee and muffin he'd stopped to get on the way.

"And what difference is that?" Chuck asked.

"Being a geek is a respectable thing," Sam explained. "It means you're smart in ways that other people wish they were smart too, except they're not, so it's kind of like you're better than they are. Being a dork means you're embarrassing."

"Wanting me to find my one true love is embarrassing," Chuck pointed out. "So you're kind of a dork."

"It doesn't need to be true love. Just someone you care about in more than a sexy way," Sam said. "You're human. You've got to have human feelings in there somewhere."

"I don't see why you care," Chuck said.

"I don't know, I can't help it," Sam admitted. "I think you'd be a lot nicer to be around, for one thing."

Chuck grinned. "I think it would take a lot more than a girlfriend in order for me to become a pleasant person to be around."

"It could be a boyfriend," Sam said helpfully. "Boyfriends are good too."

"Oh, trust me, no one knows how much fun boys are more than me," Chuck said. "But when you live in the public eye like I do it's not really an option."

That was Chuck for "my dad would disown me and then I'd be poor".

If he wasn't stoned, Sam still wouldn't want Chuck to be disowned, but he'd definitely be using the drugs as an excuse for why he was being nice. "Sounds like you need a secret boyfriend then. Or a very understanding girlfriend."

Chuck laughed. "How about I go for neither and just sleep around to my heart's content?"

"I don't know, will regular sex make you nicer in general and more pleasant to be around?" Sam asked.

"Well it won't make me any meaner," Chuck said.

"I guess that's an improvement," Sam said. "You should have lots of Francine's brownies too. Then you really won't be mean."

"I think I can manage that so long as I keep supplying her with the good oregano," Chuck said with a grin.

"You should do that, definitely," Sam said. "As long as I get some too."
