"I realize some of you may have had to bring your children to class today," Steve said, "and that, yes, this is an unfortunate turn of events. "So, it's the last week before your final, and I thought it would be a good idea to have a sort of open forum, where everyone can ask any questions they might have about anything related to the class, and I and your classmates will do our best to answer. You can also use this time to review for the final if you haven't really got any questions. How does that sound?" Steve continued without waiting for an answer, with the relentless, merciless cheer of a man who'd cleaned marshmallow off every single surface in his kitchen recently. "Good. Let's get started."

"Yes!" Lena made victory arms at permission to do what she really had been thinking of, and began industriously coloring the ends of her hair green. After a bit, she switched to pink.

Dinah didn't notice. Right away.

And when Dinah *did* notice, she facepalmed. "Lena, no! That won't come out!"

"Daddy said I could!"

Mommy gave Daddy a disbelieving look. "We have to give her back! In mostly the same shape she was when we got her!" she whispered.

Priestly snorted. "She's just doing the tips. It's not like they'll have to shave her head."

Although, they could probably swing some sort of bangs-only look that would look really cool. . . .

Okay, then Dinah really would kill him.

Dinah sighed, and watched Lena move on to blue tips, then start in on her nails. With purple. "I guess, yeah. I kinda worry about them. Us. Whoever. They *have* to be missing her by now."

"Well, considering they had to have come here to have, you know, met, I figure they gotta have at least some idea where she is, right?"

Dinah paused, thinking about that, then said, "Do you think we'll remember this in the future? I mean. Are we going to remember when she's seven, that she's maybe back here with us now?"

Look, having a kid with Leto: massively uncomfortable and USTy. Having a kid with Arthur: insane. Having a kid with Dr. Tam: so out there it wasn't even a deal.

A kid with Priestly?... um. A little too easy to talk about.

Just a bit, yeah.

"I'm thinkin' she's making kind of an impression here. I mean, this is the sort of thing I think I'd remember."

As Lena started drawing a tulip on her elbow, Dinah snorted. "Yeah, me too. Although, I guess.. I mean, there's three others. Although none of them seem real possible. At all." She put her head down, watching Lena industriously pick out a pink marker. "She was doing cartwheels at Fight Club last night. And learning a diving roll from another little girl."

"And coloring all over herself today. She's pretty obviously ours." Priestly shook his head. "Which is . . . way too weird to think about. I mean, you're awesome and I love you, but. . . ."

"Right back at you. I love you too. But." Dinah shook her head, smiling. "She told me all about living in Santa Cruz in the summer, and New Gotham in the fall and winter, and how she goes to school there, and has fun at summer day camp in California, and Trucker and Zo and some other people at your sub shop, and it still doesn't seem real. Does that make me a bad mom?"

Lena came over at this point, fluttering her fingers. "See? Art! I got a happy face on my thumbs! Look, Mommy! Look!"

"That's awesome, honey. Ooo, I like the moon there, too." Dinah grinned at her, unable not to. "Show Daddy."

Lena held her hand out to Priestly, bouncing on her toes. "See?"

"That's pretty sweet, kiddo." Priestly reached out to ruffle Lena's now brightly colored hair. "You could put faces on all your fingers and do puppet shows."

"Oooo!" Coooooool idea! "This is the moon, and this is Mr. Sun, and this is the sandwich maker..." Lena started drawing some more on her fingers. "Can I do yours, Daddy?"
