Management Theory [Tuesday, April 7, 4th period]

Yzma was back and thoroughly uninterested in talking about how she'd gotten stuck as a kitten for two weeks, thank you very much.

The students might notice that only half of them were wearing spiffy lab coats and hats. The other half--horrors!--were clad in hairnets and paper hats.

"Today we will be working in fast food!" Yzma said. "Dealing with peasants is very important blah, blah I don't believe that, no one should...but everyone, even peasants, need food." She made a face. "Apparently. So! Half of you will be customers! Make your order as complicated as possible! Demand pizza even though this is clearly a sandwich shop! Ask for only 17 ice cubes in your drinks! People in hairnets! Serve the peasants as passive-aggressively as possible without them calling for your manager! Excellent!"

Thunder cracked behind her as she laughed.

Oh, being on the other side of the counter. It was hard for Turtle not to cackle in glee at the chance to be annoying.

"Well, hello..." Turtle squinted her eyes and leaned forward as if checking a nametag, and then made of a point of maiming the pronunciation of Jaina's name. "How many calories are in your super duper salami sammich?"

Jaina raised her eyebrows. "You're really going to make me make stuff up like that?"

"I'm on a very strict diet," Turtle said plaintively, giving Jaina a look that said she cannot believe that this shop girl was giving her crap. "I can't have more than 300 calories per item eaten. Ever."

"Then I'm afraid we'd have to like, make you a third of a sandwich or something," she said. She had no idea. She'd never counted a calorie in her insanely-active tiny-boned life.

"Would it help to take off the cheese?"

"Maybe you'd get a half then," Jaina replied. It was probably a really good thing she had a predestined career path.

"But I really like cheese," Turtle said, with a nice whiiine to go with it.

"Cheese or diet, your pick. And if it helps your decision, the diet's stupid," she stated.

"You're stupid!" said Turtle, belligerently.

She'd learned a lot from her customers.

"No, I'm underpaid," said Jaina, who in a real setting would have been coming around the counter all "Look, bitch." But it was class, and she could chill out for class.

Turtle couldn't help it; she took classes to get A's, darn it.

"With service like this," she scoffed, "I'm surprised they bother paying you at all."

"Well, there are laws," she deadpanned. And yes, she knew there were laws. She'd worked for GOB once. She'd looked them up.

"And you're very lucky for them! Now make me my sammich, and make sure there are exactly 245 calories involved."

Jaina nodded. "Coming right up."

She put a piece of cheese between a half a loaf of bread and said, "That'll be five dollars plus tip."

Turtle looked at the sandwich with some unmasked distaste.

"Is that...cheese on my sandwich?"

"You really like cheese," Jaina reminded her.

"Ew!" said Turtle. "I hate cheese!"

Jaina looked at her for a long moment, then said, "I'm on break."

"I want to speak with your manager, young lady! Do you know who I am?"

Suddenly, Turtle realized that she wasn't channeling Annoying Customer Number One.

She was channeling her mother.
