There was no Buffy in the library today.

What there was was a sign on the door:

Off killing zombies
Research books on the table if you need them.
(No stealing on my non-watch!!!)


[Buffy's- clearly- not there, but the library can be open for those who might need it.]

"Uh..." Eve flipped through the pages of notes she'd made. "Yeah, actually," she said with a nod.

Mac leaned forward a little to peer over her shoulder.

"We were thinking that someone had to start all this somehow, and there's all this folklore when it comes to voodoo, and mind control..." she said.

"But these aren't your typical voodoo zombies," Eve mused. "So... maybe nothing about this is typical."

Meaning maybe they could find a way to cure everybody.

"When is anything around here typical?" Mac said, in some sort of agreement with that statement.

"Good point," Eve said, making a face. "So... okay. Operating under the assumption that this is indeed voodoo and a curse... curses can be lifted."

"But only if we can figure out which one they used," Mac continued for her.

"But at least this gives us something to work with," Eve said. "Because depending on the curse, we might even be able to reverse the effects it had on people -- as opposed to just ending it and making sure it doesn't continue on."

"Let's go with that," Mac agreed with a nod. That was infinitely preferable to just killing all of them.

She leaned over to look at the books Eve had been through. "Any of these have any specific spells that you saw?"

"That stack," Eve said, gesturing to one of the piles. "I think one has an entire chapter on them."

"That's the sort of thing I'm hoping for."

Mac started sifting through the stack for a hopeful-looking book.

Eve snagged a book from the stack. The book was old and still kind of dusty and looked kind of depressingly important. "There's something in here I want your input on," she said, flipping the pages. "Wanna see if you think it means the same thing I thought it did."

"I'll take a look," Mac agreed, nodding and eying the book Eve had picked.

It was always the musty ones.

Eve paged through the book for a couple moments. "Okay, this," she said, tapping a page. "This wasn't making any sense for the longest time, but a voodoo curse kind of makes it click. Says something about how it can be lifted. Says... okay, I think that part got some water damage or something, 'cause it doesn't say who can lift it. But here's the part that I wanted you to look at."

She looked to Mac. "It's talking about how if you can lift the curse, everything will be altered to a more favorable outcome." She made a face. "Wow, whoever wrote this was really pretentious."

"And vague," Mac noted, peering to see if she could make out any more words. "Positive... but vague."

"Guy was either trying to sound all mystical or cover his ass, one of the two," was Eve's opinion. "But wait... next page... oh, here we go." She scanned the page and grinned excitedly. "This page must've been written by the guy after he got some sense knocked into him -- it says if you can get the curse lifted, the zombies will go back to the way they were. So that means that they'll go back to being living people again!"

"That is what we want to hear," Mac said, brightening a little.

"There has to be more books on voodoo in this place," she continued. "I'll try and track them down."
