Don't ask why Lily was wearing a Santa hat in class in March. The end of March, even. But there was a giant Christmas tree in the playroom! And there were presents underneath!

"We were going to talk about personality but you know what, no, we're having Christmas," Lily announced. "Those four to six-year-olds? You're going to watch them open presents and experience the childlike glee. That's it. Merry fake Christmas!"

Claire kept one eye on the children, just to make sure nobody was bleeding or hitting the other kids. Most of her attention was on nomming candy (mmmm, healthy breakfast!) and trying to play Battleship against herself.

"Eeee, they're so cute when they're--" Francine paused. "Eating wrapping paper. No, stop that, honey." She went over to substitute a candy cane into the hands of a little girl on the four end of the four-to-six spectrum, then came back with a sigh. "They're so cute when they're trying to poison themselves."

"I know, and they're so happy," Claire said, after she swallowed a mouthful of foil-wrapped chocolate Santa. "Like, I don't think I was even this happy that weekend when we were randomly kids."

She eyed two of the small boys. "Do you think the redhead's going to try to steal the other one's truck?"

Bender wasn't a great fan of watching other people get stuff. Even faked up children getting not real stuff. Also, he was bigger than them.

That helped in the tug of war over the model plane. Victory, Bender! And made holding the train out of reach over his head even more satisfying.

Jack found Jill's stocking and present and started eating the candy. She didn't deserve it anyway. He also watched the fake kids kind of wistfully. He'd never been a little kid, and even if he had been, his mom would've shut him out of Christmas just like she had everything else since the cycle had started.
