Blank Page Art Club, Monday After Classes

The tables in the art room were covered in small bins of different kinds of stone, metal and plastic beads, wire, different colors of silk cord, and the fastenings needed to turn these things into necklaces and bracelets.

"Hey," Claire announced, once she realized everybody was there and looked up from her attempt at a fake-amber-and-silver bracelet. "We're making jewelry today. I got some directions off the Internet, but it's kind of not rocket science."

"Anyhow, while we're working we have to talk about the Art Crawl thing next month. It's April 15-16, so we need ..." she looked at her notebook. "Somebody to talk to the music club about DJing or playing, somebody to talk to Geoff at the theater about if the cast wants to perform, people to get the art together, somebody to make the advertising posters and hang them up, and people to clean the warehouse out before the show. There's a sign-up sheet going around, so please let me know what you can do so I don't go insane. And I think that's it."

Katchoo kind of couldn't believe she was volunteering for stuff, but hey, there it was.

"Unless someone wants to fight it out, I can help with the posters."

By her left foot, Clocky beeped in utter shock.

Katchoo glanced down at Clocky. "You got those dates, right?"

Clocky chirped affirmatively.

"You gonna remind me the week before?

Another chirp.

Katchoo looked at Claire and canted her head to the side in an awkward sort of gesture. "Yeah, sure."

"I can talk to either the music or theatre people?" Angela offered.

Angela nodded, "Yeah, I know him. If nothing else, I can grab him for a minute in cheerleading and ask."

"I can bring something up at rehearsal tomorrow," Cal offered, which Claire probably already knew.

"I'm too afraid to even dare to think of what goes on in that man's head."

"I wouldn't go that far," Cal said. "I'd probably just say he's a bit off, and I need as much balance as I can get."

"No more than balance and art people," Cal countered, figuring he had the excuse of being both.

"So art people are more subtle," said Cal. "Drama people are...dramatic, go figure. Us writer people have it best. We just put it all into the page."

"You should write something," Cal nodded, "and then we'll see if it's as lame as you say it is."

Cal grinned a little. "That's what half my stuff is, too, you know. And you liked that story? Really?"

"Couldn't let them have a happy ending," Cal said with a faint grin.

"Good," Cal grinned back. "Happy endings are boring."

And entirely unrealistic.

"What is it you mean by getting the art together?" Alice asked. "Are we decorating with our individual pieces, or are we simply finding an area and making art on the spot?"

It was possible that Alice was far too distracted by making art itself, weekly, to have paid proper attention. Alice never was any good at sitting and listening.

"I believe so," Alice nodded. "I should be happy to assist in that regard. Also ... may we engage in live acts of art during the crawl, after we've set all the pieces up?"

Alice tended to the chaos side of life.

"Non-violent art," Alice grinned. "I suppose I can manage that."

She was flattered by the implication, really.

This was something Angela could get into.

She could thread chunky beads onto a string while she chatted, definitely.

Nope, not rocket science, but Cal decided that he was going to treat putting beads on a string like it was just because it distinctly was not.

And, hey, he figured he'd make a half dozen purple ones and keep them in his pocket to pull out to ease over certain blondes when he got them huffy next time.
