Ethics [Tuesday, March 10, 2nd period]

"Love is patient, love is kind," Anakin began, looking down at his notes, then snorted and made the universal symbol for "blah, blah, blah" with his hand.

He might secretly be a soft touch on the subject, but he was hoping no one in the room would call him on it.

"In my version of the Jedi Order, we were taught that in order to maintain the proper distance necessary to negotiate impartially across our galaxy, we were to strive for serenity, not passion. To be Jedi, we should not know anger, or hatred...or love. When we were very small children, we were raised in the Temple so that family loyalty or planetary allegiance would not get in the way of following the will of the Force."

He crossed his arms over his chest and glanced around the room. "Is this an unreasonable standard to hold someone to? Can you stop someone from falling in love? What do you think they were trying to prevent?"

"A living prison for the creatures," Temari confirmed. "My brother was one of them."

This was easily one of the more horrifying things he'd ever heard. "How long did they remain a living prison?" he asked carefully.

"Until someone tries to remove the demon. Or they're no longer useful as a weapon."

There had been others before Gaara.

"And how are they used as weapons?" Anakin asked.

"The demon wants to live as badly as we do. If the prison dies, they die. So they will protect it at all costs."

She assumed he could figure that one out.

"I can see that," he said a little faintly. "Is there no other solution to this problem?"

"They have a body of sorts," Temari replied slowly. "Giant creatures that can level a city without a care."

Because it was like Japan. At least there was no Godzilla bijuu.

"Tanuki was placed in a tea kettle before Gaara." Yes. A tea kettle.

No, it didn't make sense to her either.

"But word reached my father that a child in another village had been sealed."

Anakin slotted "in a teakettle" next to "paints the future" as things he'd never understand.

"And that seemed like such a fabulous idea he had to try it?" he asked dryly.
