Management Theory [Tuesday, March 3, 4th period]

Today, when the students arrived, they would find Yzma wearing the same charming goggles and lab coat ensemble as the rest of them.

"Sometimes," she began, "traditional means of getting your point across to the clearly inferior--talking, yelling, kicking them with pointy shoes--simply do not work! Sometimes they will not let you win at shuffleboard and make fun of your hair!" She coughed. "Not that that has happened to me. Sometimes you have no choice but to resort to...CHEMISTRY!"

She cackled madly as thunder pealed and a cabinet full of pink vials opened up behind her.

"It is difficult to win at shuffleboard when you don't have opposable thumbs!" she giggled to herself.

"Pair up, and make sure you each take a vial. One person drinks the vial--or drops it on the floor, it doesn't really matter--and the other person observes what happens! Then switch!"

Somehow she didn't think the second person would be all that anxious to drink the potions after they observed what happened.

"All effects--if there are any--will wear off before class is over! And no taking potions out of the class with you."

And this was a totally effective management technique where she came from. Yzma's country was odd.

Yeah, there was no way Mac was going to drink anything given to her by the creepy teacher.

She would be eying the bottles, and hoping someone braver than her (or possibly insane, she wasn't fussy) decided it would be a fun experiment.

"So," Turtle said, ruffling a hand through her hair as if to get it to dry a little more, giving Mac a dubious smile. "What do you think?"

"I think I wouldn't drink this stuff for anything," Mac replied, holding one of the potions up to look through it.

"But how bad," Turtle wondered, with the sort of tone that suggested that she wouldn't be at all opposed to Mac talking her out of this one, "could they be? I mean, they can't be too bad. She can't do anything to harm any of us, or she could get sued."

"... do you want to try, then?" Mac asked. Well, she sure didn't.

There was a long pause.

"No," she said, "I don't want to. But whether or not I think we should...?"

She still looked very on the fence about that.

"I think it's one of those things you'd categorise under 'risky'," Mac said carefully. "But I suppose, the chances lean marginally more to the 'no permanent damage' side."

Turtle nodded a little. "And I do hate feeling like I'm not a risk taker. I am. Especially if money is involved. But not when, you know, death is."

"I really don't think you'll die," Mac said after a moment. "They're pretty good at avoiding that side effect around here."

"Ten bucks," Turtle decided, "and I'll drink both vials."

Mac arched an eyebrow. "Five." She tried with a little smirk. She could barter.

"Seven fifty!"

Happy medium! And she kind of loved that Mac bartered.

"Done!" she decided, grinning at Turtle. It was a good compromise as far as she was concerned.

"Awesome," Turtle grinned, sticking out her hand to shake on it. "It's a deal!"

"Excellent," Mac said cheerfully, shaking on it with one hand, before offering Turtle the bottle of potion with the other.

Turtle took Mac's potion in one hand, holding her own in the other. She carefully scrutinized each of them before deciding to start with Mac's. She took in a breath, pinched her nose shut, and threw it back.

And promptly took the form of a frog.

...Well. At least it wasn't a turtle.

... Oh.

Mac stared, and crouched down after a moment to get a closer look. Cute, if a little on the amphibious side.

"You better not be poisonous."

Turtle stuck out her longer-than-expected tongue at Mac, gave a ribbit, and hopped a little where she had previously been sitting.

She felt so vulnerable being small and green but entirely without a shell.

Re: Play with Potions!

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm going to take that as a 'no'," Mac told her. "And I hope this doesn't last too long, because I feel silly talking to a frog."

Re: Play with Potions!

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Turtle gave a small ribbit in reply.

No shell, but at least it was....slightly easier to communicate. She blinked, and then considered the other potion. She ribbited again at Mac, wondering if they should wait or see what happens if taking another one.

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
... Well, that slight bit was better than nothing.

Mac glanced back and forth between Turtle and the vial.

"More?" she asked a little skeptically.

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
With a ribbit, Turtle shrugged.

As well as a frog could shrug, anyway.

But opening up her mouth might have helped.

Mac considered this plan a moment, before uncapping the top to try and feed some to her.

"If this backfires, it is so not my fault."

Nice to have a disclaimer.

Re: Play with Potions!

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. Turtle would have ribbited an agreement if she wasn't swallowing a potion.

A potion that very shortly turned her into a small fluffy white dog.

...Turtle was not liking these potions.

Mac was finding them pretty amusing, on the other hand, and couldn't hide her snicker.

"Cute," she remarked.
