Food Appreciation [Class Eight, Period #3]

"Cheese is one of the greatest foods on earth. It goes great with everything," Marshall said, deciding to skip the niceties and the hello's this morning. Cheese day was an important day, dammit. "For those of you who are lactose intolerant I apologize for today's class and I have provided you with candy to eat while I talk."

Indeed there were piles of candy on everybody's desk to eat while Marshall talked out of cheese.

"For those of you who don't know, cheese is made from the proteins and fat from milk. Usually this is milk from cows but there are also cheeses from goats, sheep and buffalo. There's a bunch of different kinds of cheese. You can get different styles, textures and flavors depending on the origin of the milk, whether it has been pasteurized, butterfat content, the species of bacteria and mold, and the processing including the length of aging."

Marshall grinned. "Wikipedia is awesome."

"So, like, there's a bunch of fancy cheeses and there's people who like to think they're cheese connoisseurs and are all serious business about cheese. I don't roll like that," he said. "We're gonna eat good stuff."

He walked behind the buffet table and pointed out the sorts of food he got today. "We've got cheetos, cheez-its, macaroni and cheese, nachos, cheese fries, cheesy poofs, Goldfish crackers, that cheese that comes in a can, broccoli cheese soup, string cheese, mozzarella sticks..."

There was a lot of cheesy foods up there.

"Eat! Enjoy cheese!" Marshall couldn't resist picking up the cheese in a can and spraying a bit in his mouth. Don't worry, he didn't put his lips on the can or anything. That would be gross.

Right.

Hurley vaguely thought it would be fun to carve something from the cheese.

Like, a stature or something.

Not that he was a carver or anything.

But wow. This was a lot of cheese.

Firekeeper... went straight for those crunchy things that claimed to be "cheese" flavor but didn't really taste much like cheese. She liked them, but they didn't taste like cheese.

Blind Seer was mostly disappointed at the lack of meat.

Still with the Spy Oakleys on, Jen was hanging out at a corner of the table, very slowly nibbling on Cheetos one at a time.

Slowly.

In moderation.

Lots of moderation.

Because moderation was good.

. . . you know, in moderation.

So obviously someone was missing the point.

The sunglasses and slow nibbling got Hoshi's attention. She got a plate of mozzarella sticks and sat down near Jen. "Bad hangover?" she guessed.

"Something like that," Jen confirmed, nibbling at a new Cheeto with excruciating slowness. She was about one step above trying to grate it on her teeth, really. "I'm never drinking again."

"Yikes. I've done that myself, though it doesn't seem to stop me from drinking," said Hoshi. "At least you didn't pick up any new body piercings or do any drunk dialing, right?"

The broccoli cheese soup was nice and warm, so Sam hit that first, wanting to fill up on something at least slightly worthwhile.

"Dude, you've got this whole spread to choose from and that's what you pick?" Dean asked disbelievingly.

"It's good. It's nice and hot," Sam said, offering some to Dean. "It's really cheesy, I promise."

She was currently eating nachos and working on spray cheese curly hair.

Alex snagged some cheese fries and mozzarella sticks. She loved cheese almost as much as chocolate.

"You know," Priestly commented to no one in particular as he piled a plate high with cheesy things. "Just because a cheese is fancy doesn't mean it isn't good. You ever had a brie quesadilla? Or strawberries with mascarpone? It's amazing. Like desert cheese."

He could go on for awhile. Possibly with his mouthful.

Just don't get him started on those weird cheeses people make with worms.

"Dude! Strawberries with mascarpone rock!" Marco chimed in. He only knew this because every time he went home people took him out to five star restaurants that let him eat for free.

"All fries should be covered in cheese," Harry declared as he grabbed for the cheese fries. He added some nachos too, because that made for a well-balanced meal...in that the plate he was holding was now balanced.

Momoko wasn't sure what to start with, so she munched on a handful of goldfish crackers (making them swim through the air before chomping their heads off was TOTALLY the appropriate way to eat them!) while she considered the cheesy choices available. Had she even thought about how many things came in 'cheese' flavour before?
