Library; Monday [ 03/02 ].

Feeling pretty grumpy as he clung to his coffee and open the library, Cal was wondering if they could have their vacation back. Please? Pretty please? With a cherry on top.

Sighing, he resolved to try to stave off the back to school blues by doodling a little more in his notebook and trying to make something out of all his little scribbled spurts of inspiration.

There weren't even any books to organize and put away, because no one had really been around to check them out.

Second period was the potentially working period, so Cal tried to think of something to make himself look busy.

It resulted in him finding a big old picture book with bright colourful photos of tropical island, for him to pine over.

Cal had given up on making something out of his ramblings and was reading an old Herman Melville book (http://www.amazon.com/Typee-Herman-Melville/dp/0543898482/ref=pd_bbs_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235972952&sr=8-4).

Cal is actually not out having a smoke, but he is out in general, just to get outside for a bit, so the library is open to the librarian and his aides.

Between reading paragraphs about cannibals, Cal was watching the clock, waiting it tick until he could go and flee to art club, where he actually felt like he might even have something decent to create.

"Caaaaal," Ino said, wandering into the library and giving it a dubious look. "It is totally your fault I'm here today, just so you know."

Totally.

Cal glanced up from his book with an arched eyebrow. "Is it?" he asked.

"Uh huh," she said with a firm little nod. "Because otherwise I wouldn't have known about Mount Rushmore, so this is totally your fault."

Even though it was her fault for, well, everything else. Ino was ignoring that. Sort of. Mostly it was fun to come in and accuse him of stuff.

Cal snorted a little. "Are you going to research it, or something?"

"I have to present on it in class this week," she informed him. "For marks."

Never mind that she'd totally agreed of her own volition for this.

"Oh, man," Cal smirked. "I've started a trend. Think you can make it as good as my awesome dictation on Smyrna?"

"Hopefully," she said optimistically. "Though you had the luck of, you know, knowing what you were talking about, so that's not really fair."

"Did you pick Mount Rushmore?" Cal asked. "Or did things end up being oddly fortuitous that Algren or Durden picked something we've talked about?"

"Well," she said slowly, "I had to ask permission to make a diorama of it 'cause it, I guess, made more sense to me than what we'd covered in class. So Algren-sensei said I could do a presentation on it, and the faces on it, and what they did."

"Ah, but see?" Cal pointed out. "You picked it, so you can't complain. I didn't get to pick mine."

She stuck her tongue out at him. "Diorama's are totally different from presentations, geez. I asked 'bout a diorama."

Cal just looked at Ino, sighed a little, and shook his head.

"Never mind. So you're doing your diarama on Rushmore. You going to actually take some rock and explode it into form?"

Because she should. All that talk of blowing things up.

Amber came in and made a beeline for the card catalog, keeping her head ducked. She had to get in some decent studying and she needed certain books to help her achieve what it was she was looking to do.

Cal couldn't help arching an eyebrow at Amber's darting, but he was going to be the last person to say anything, considering they hadn't talked in...oh...about forever ago. And it wasn't good, if he was remembering correctly.

So he'd just let her do her thing and then try to think of something to say that wasn't awkward when she came around to check out whatever she was getting.

Well, now she was totally thinking of it.

And kinda staring at him.

"...you do realize that the diorama's were for our mid-terms, right? Which was, you know, the week before spring break?"

Cal took a moment to think back.

"Shut up," he said. "Anything that happened before spring break is officially wiped from my brain ~~and that was a rough week for the mun~~."

Amber spent most of the entire hour searching for books. "Hi. I'd like to check these out, please."

"Anything that happened before spring break?" she teased ~~and the mun completely understands!~~. "Should I remember to do any awful things, if they come up, right before it then next year so you won't remember after the break?"

It was a stack of books that hit Cal like a sledgehammer to the brain, wondering if there was something important for class he was being a failure about and completely missing.

"For class?" he asked, starting to check the books out for her.
