Young Entrepreneurs; Monday, Period 6 [ 02/16 ].

Nothing icky or awful seemed to have happened last weekend, so Turtle felt like she was on her game as she rapped her gavel to get the attention of everyone so the meeting could get started.

"Okay," she said, "we're more than halfway through February already and need to get cracking on some business. Anyone can sit around, eating pie and donuts and talking about business, but until you're actually selling something, you're not going to be an entrepreneur. Today, I was hoping we could talk about really wrangling down some firm ideas on what product or service to provide this semester to raise money for the club and ourselves. I know an Fandom Event Emergency Kit was mentioned at one point; there might be something there. Were there any other thoughts? And if we stick with the kits, what would we put in them and how do we make them better than if our consumers just went to the store to get the same things? Because, trust me, I own that store, I know they there's unlikely to be anything in those kits that they can't get there."

There was a pause.

"Unless the kits were filled with duct tape, anyway."

Darn you, elusive duct tape orders!

Eat things and talk about stuff. Although not at the same time; talking with your mouth full is definitely a business no-no.

Ned, as he was wont to do, had two (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/eating-well/deep-dish-apple-pie-recipe/index.html) pies (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ask-aida/double-banana-cream-pie-recipe/index.html) for the club's meeting.

He liked baking the pies, he likes eating the pies. The benefits were twofold.

"Ohmygosh," Turtle was, for a moment, in complete awe, "that apple pie is a thing of pure beauty."

"It's the deep dish one I mentioned," Ned said. "It takes longer to cook but...there's a lot of pie filling in there."

"I don't know," sighed Turtle, "if I could bring myself to destroy such a work of art by eating it."

There was a beat, and then she was suddenly wielding a fork.

"Wait, no. Yes, I can."

"I can always make another one," he said and slid the pie closer to her. "They're fun to make. Challenging. But, have a big piece."

Turtle definitely helped herself to a big piece. Not the biggest, but still a considerable one. "Yuuuuuum," she said, before even trying it yet because even looking at it tasted delicious. "Seriously, Ned, if it wouldn't be mostly you doing all the grunt work, I'd almost even suggest doing pies this semester for the project."

"I don't mind baking and I can always get people to help me if you did want to do that," he said, shrugging. "Pies aren't hard if you follow the recipes and maybe get a little creative."

"See, and that's just the thing, though," Turtle mused around a very large bite of the oh-em-eff-gee delicious pie; pie, apparently, seemed to get the gears in her head going pretty smoothly. "We'd have to be creative. I mean, your pies are clearly the best, Ned, there's no contest, but there are still a gazillion places to get pie around here. We'd have to offer something more."

"Good point," he said and bit his lip in thought. "Toy surprise in the pie? No, I'm kidding. Is there anything we have a lot of around this place?"

"Do you ever find yourself tempted to branch into larger areas of baked goods?" Alice asked, munching on a slice. "Not that the pies aren't quite delicious."

"Sometimes," Ned answered thoughtfully. "But I know that I'm not as good with other areas as I am with this so I've stuck to my niche."

"Are other pastries more difficult?" Alice asked. "Croissants too hard to make properly fluffy? I had heard that pie crust could be tricky."

Being all serious about business was exciting, but Turtle had to admit, she liked seeing everyone interact toward the end of the meeting an awful lot, too.

"Have you always been business-minded?" Alice asked. "Or did something push you towards that realm at a young age? I always mean to ask you that, but I forget most of the time."

Turtle gave a faint smile. "As long as I can remember, I have been," she said. "I practically learned how to read from The Wall Street Journal."

"Isn't Wall Street where all of the important businessmen are?" Alice asked. Which wasn't too bad, considering she wasn't from this century and all. "Do you hope to go there, one day? Permanently, that is."

The donuts were actually becoming slightly addictive. Leto picked one up together with a coffee, then found a seat.

"Do you know, I've seen people dip their donuts in the coffee," Alice said, conversationally. "It improves the flavor, or so I've heard, though one would imagine it leaves quite a number of crumbs in one's mug."

"I would guess the same, yes." Leto smiled warmly at Alice. "But then that might be part of the taste. Mix drink and food temporarily and leave them both with a trace of each other's taste."

"It would be thoroughly undignified to take rather a large mouthful of one's drink, and hold it while crunching onto crackers, to let them soak," Alice said quite primly. "Which is why I do try very hard to not get caught at such."

"I wouldn't have expected anything less from you," Leto replied, reaching out to let his fingertips touch her hair. "Is that something particular to your background? I mean the rule, not the deliberate breaking of it."

Alice smiled at the touch, taking a seat next to his and scooting it closer. "Society was very, very proper," she explained. "One mustn't speak too loudly. Children should be seen and not heard. One must never be forward. One should control one's emotions at all times. Very deferential, very polite, and dreadfully boring."

"It didn't, not in the least," Alice said with a laugh. "So I went adventuring. I rather enjoy this island, you know. It's a proper adventure."

She hesitated before leaning in to rest her head against his. "As did I," she agreed. "I'm quite glad you asked me."
