Young Entrepreneurs; Monday, Period 6 [ 02/16 ].

Nothing icky or awful seemed to have happened last weekend, so Turtle felt like she was on her game as she rapped her gavel to get the attention of everyone so the meeting could get started.

"Okay," she said, "we're more than halfway through February already and need to get cracking on some business. Anyone can sit around, eating pie and donuts and talking about business, but until you're actually selling something, you're not going to be an entrepreneur. Today, I was hoping we could talk about really wrangling down some firm ideas on what product or service to provide this semester to raise money for the club and ourselves. I know an Fandom Event Emergency Kit was mentioned at one point; there might be something there. Were there any other thoughts? And if we stick with the kits, what would we put in them and how do we make them better than if our consumers just went to the store to get the same things? Because, trust me, I own that store, I know they there's unlikely to be anything in those kits that they can't get there."

There was a pause.

"Unless the kits were filled with duct tape, anyway."

Darn you, elusive duct tape orders!

"Alice, you didn't, I..." Leto had to think for a moment how to phrase this. "I just can't get engaged to you." He looked at her, worried.

There were possibly sentences that Alice had expected to her less than that particular one; they might well have involved hyperintelligent dolphins, or geographical details of small Pacific islands.

"You ..." She glanced at him. "You thought I was courting you?"

And now Leto looked quite confused. "Dinah informed me that dating should lead to a monogamous arrangement similar to an engagement," he told Alice. "I... clearly misinterpreted you."

"I suppose it can," Alice allowed. "Perhaps it does, for her. It seems to vary, here. Some couples are highly devoted, and quite serious; some go on dates with any who catch their eye. There are levels, as well. Some arrangements are monogamous, some aren't. Some are formal, and some the reverse. I only meant --"

She flushed a light pink. "I wasn't proposing marriage," she said, somewhat sheepishly. "I'm not quite so Victorian as that. I was only asking if, while we adventured, we should like to pack a lunch and steal kisses."

He laughed, looking slightly embarrassed. "That I would very much like. And I'm sorry if I led you to believe otherwise." Laughing again, he shook his head. "I've been told I need to be clear about these things to avoid misunderstandings."

"Clarity helps," Alice nodded, her face growing serious. "Perhaps that should go on our list of things to discuss. I ... like being around you, whatever form that takes. Games or conversation or how it was the other morning, in the common room."

There had been something particularly exposed to that, Alice had felt; vulnerability, perhaps, or intimacy. Perhaps they were two sides of the same coin.

Leto took her hand, holding it between his palms. "And I like that too, Alice. And that list seems to increase. Is that a good or a bad thing?" He looked at her, smiling.

Her hand felt nice inside his. She returned his smile.

"I think it might be good," she decided. "Our conversations always lead to rather interesting places. Though I suppose the list increasing makes it more imperative that we finally have that conversation."

She was not so calm about it as she might sound; some of the things she had to share were somewhat unnerving, and he might flee, though she was hopeful he wouldn't.

"Conversations as adventures in themselves," he agreed. "And, yes, I think we should.

"They can be, if done well," she said simply. "Another time, then. Perhaps we'll go adventuring sooner than expected."

"Perhaps we will." Leto gave her a look that might have conveyed that he was determined to make that happen.
