Nothing icky or awful seemed to have happened last weekend, so Turtle felt like she was on her game as she rapped her gavel to get the attention of everyone so the meeting could get started.

"Okay," she said, "we're more than halfway through February already and need to get cracking on some business. Anyone can sit around, eating pie and donuts and talking about business, but until you're actually selling something, you're not going to be an entrepreneur. Today, I was hoping we could talk about really wrangling down some firm ideas on what product or service to provide this semester to raise money for the club and ourselves. I know an Fandom Event Emergency Kit was mentioned at one point; there might be something there. Were there any other thoughts? And if we stick with the kits, what would we put in them and how do we make them better than if our consumers just went to the store to get the same things? Because, trust me, I own that store, I know they there's unlikely to be anything in those kits that they can't get there."

There was a pause.

"Unless the kits were filled with duct tape, anyway."

Darn you, elusive duct tape orders!

"On a scale of one to ten?" Turtle mused, allowing herself a little bit of mostly joking pomposity. "About a fifteen."

"Then, your fifteen can make up for about my five," he said. "Balance the club intelligence out."

"Oh, come on!" Turtle gave Ned a very unconvinced look. "You're very smart, too."

"Not that smart!" Ned insisted. "I make sometimes dumb decisions."

"Well, we all make dumb decisions, Ned," Turtle pointed out, rolling her eyes slightly and feeling absolutely no need to buffer that statement with the evidence of an all-too-recent wedding that both of them might have remembered. "It's just some a lot more than others."

"Are you my conscience?" Ned joked with a laugh.

"Maybe!" Turtle said, giggling a little at the thought. "If I am, you sure got a good one. A heck of a lot better than some little cricket, anyway."

"And you don't sing at me to get the point across," Ned agreed. "Much better than a little cricket."

"Trust me, you don't want me singing," Turtle added with enthusiasm. "But, seriously, Ned, if you're really not very intelligent, you sure are good at hiding it."

"I just lull everyone into thinking I'm smart with pie," he joked. "Gets them every time."

"Sounds like a pretty cunning plan," Turtle noted with a conspiratorial wave of her fork, "so someone so lacking in intelligence."

"Maybe I just have moments of intelligence?" he suggested.

"Well," Turtle said with a chuckle, "you did fail to see the intelligence trap I just put you in, so maybe you're just at...say, an eight point eight. I absolutely refuse to believe you're a measly, mediocre five, though, Ned."

"You trapped me?" Ned asked, feigning shock. "Betrayal! Shock! Awe! Or, you know, just me not paying attention. I'd be willing to go an eight. Maybe."

"Eight point eight!" Turtle insisted. "Almost a nine, not quite. It's a very good standing. One time offer; take it or leave it, mister."

It was YA club; she could totally work on driving a hard bargain on anything, thank you.

"Eight point eight with the caveat that sometimes, I might dip down to a five," he bargained right back.

Turtle eyed Ned carefully a little.

"Deal," she allowed. "But only because you're a boy. It's only natural that you're going to dip toward stupid on occasion."

"And it'll be nice to be able to point to a verbal contract as an excuse," he said and offered his hand to shake on the new deal.

"Even if," Turtle asked, taking Ned's hand with a firm, professional shake, "a verbal contract is only worth the price of the paper it's written on?"

"It's better than nothing," he decided with a nod.
