Heroing [Tuesday, period 2, class #6]

Captain Hammer was not his usual swaggering self today. No, today, he almost seemed like he was in shock.

"You will, undoubtedly, have to deal with villains as a hero. And villainesses. And shapeshifters, or...something." He made a face, giving a full-body shiver. "Today, we're going to begin our unit on villains with some...discussion."

See, he had learned teacher words.

"I want you all to tell me what makes a villain in your mind, and what the ideal way of defeating them might be," he said. "And if anyone can bring me some kinda...super-industrial soap, extra credit for you."

The lecture was short but Hannibal found himself wondering why Captain Hammer needed soap.

Adora considered all the villains she knew and found herself wondering if there were any such people on the island.

The villains were far less interesting than the soap comment and she wondered at it, tilting her head at him.

Tahiri decided that if she was going to figure out what made a villain in her mind, she'd be here all day.

She was just going to fixate on the soap comment instead.

"A villain's someone who intentional wants to hurt or damage people or property for their own gain," he decided.

Helen shrugged. "What Hannibal said."

"Mass murderers," she said cheerfully. "Those rulers who stifle the basic freedoms of their subjects."

"I think a villain is someone who doesn't feel sorrow when they've hurt someone else for their own benefit," Adora said.

"Blowing up planets is generally a good indication," Ben said dryly. "Long speeches about how no one understands the sacrifices they are making...killing people on whims, vendettas against relatives..." He shrugged. "The usual."

"Someone who excessively hurts people for their own gain," Warren said with a frown. "Bonus points if they're obsessed with war. Double bonus points if they're very good at not getting caught."

Lion-o's answer was simple. "A villain is someone who is really, really bad and tries to hurt people."

Adora prided herself on being helpful and providing very good lectures about doing the right thing. And so she was in her seat and smiling should anyone need her.
