Movie Appreciation: Week 5, Period 3 (Fri. 2/6)

For Movie Appreciation, the Danger Shop was transformed into the usual auditorium with a strange new twist. There was a giant pool of icy water off to the side with floating slabs of driftwood strewn about.

Ronon sat on the edge of the stage, waiting for students to take their seats before introducing the day's movie. "I'm told for people from the right time, Titanic is a classic romance. I watched it, and I gotta tell you, if that's romance, Earth is screwed." For serious. "So this guy falls for some girl and shows her how to live or something. Then the boat they're on gets hit by a block of ice and sinks. Now, I know, spoilers or something are bad? Whatever, if I tell you everyone ends up in icy water like that," he pointed to the tank, "you tell me how many people live or die."

"Right, so let's suffer through Celine watch some parts of it and get a feel for this movie before you guys stick yourselves in the water and decide if the chick could've made some space for that guy on her plank. Still think it's true love and romance?" He flicked a switch on the remote and started up the clips.

Sokka stripped to his skivvies and dove on in. Sure, he was freezing his butt off, and his teeth were chattering like crazy, but he used to swim with icebergs all the TIME. He just... needed to get used to the water temperature, that was all.

BOY, it was cold.

"You're not quite human, are you?" he asked Emmett, noticing his complete lack of shivering.

"Psh, dude, it's not that cold," Emmett said.

Sokka raised an eyebrow. "No, SERIOUSLY. I'm from the South Pole. I used to swim in water this cold all the TIME. You're not HUMAN!"

He leaned closer, conspiratorially. "...Are you a superhero? You can tell me."

"I'm not a superhero," Emmett said with a smirk. "I'm just...strong. That's all."

"Riiiiiiight." Sokka gave Emmett a wink. "So... how many of the poor saps DO you think died of hypothermia? Probably less than drowned inside the ship, that's my bet. And there was TOTALLY room for two people on that plank."

"Oh most people drowned, definitely. I bet most couldn't even get out of the boat before it sank," Emmett said, flicking a piece of driftwood out of the way. "And as for that redheaded chick, she was just being selfish. There was totally room on the plank. They could have gotten on top of each other and used body warmth."

"I know, seriously," Sokka replied. "The only reason they DIDN'T is because the movie people wanted the Oh-So-Tragic ending. And I TOTALLY didn't cry. At all."

"Dude, me either," Emmett said. And that wasn't just because he couldn't cry. "Oh, but, dude, it was totally awesome when that guy jumped off the boat and hit the propeller."

He got a good laugh out of that.
