Heroing [Tuesday, period 2, class #5]

"HELLO CLASS!" boomed Captain Hammer, as soon as everyone was assembled in the Danger Shop. "I'm sorry you had to bear on without my presence last week. I had a superhero emergency." In that his cave had flooded, because Captain Hammer had not yet realized that basing his Ham-Lair on the beach wasn't the best idea. "Today... we are learning about the wonders of transportation!"

He passed around a few pictures of his various Ham-vehicles, mostly to show off. They were awesome, after all. "Every hero needs a way to get around. You can't run everywhere. What if you were busy entertaining until the last second, and needed to get somewhere extra-fast? These things," he said sagely, "do happen. So, today, we're going to play pretend!"

Hammer pressed a few buttons, and a small assortment of vehicles -- all state of the art -- appeared, each reasonably far apart from the other, with a small portion of vehicle-appropriate landscape before it. "I put you in pairs, and you're going to go play with one of these, and then report back to the class what you thought. I know both villains and heroes who all use these things! Keep that in mind! Tell us why it worked, and why it didn't. Now, shoo."

[please wait for EXTENSIVE OCD up. ETA: and yes I am aware I marked all the OCD as February 5th. Hush.]

Tahiri had to use a little Force boost to clamber up onto the wagon seat near Tony, being as short as she was. "I've never driven an animal before," she mused. "I know how to ride a bantha, but I'm not sure if you use the reins the same way."

"I can ride a motorcycle," Tony offered. Because that knowledge would be useful with a covered wagon. "What's a bantha?"

"Big furry animal, sort of like a cow here, only they live in the desert and they're a lot bigger," Tahiri explained. "I used to have one as a pet when I was little. It's a special thing with the Sand People."

"You had a giant desert cow as a pet? Wasn't it," Tony waved a hand over his head, "like, way bigger than you?"

"Hey," Tahiri protested, laughing, as she reached for the reins and, failing, waved a hand and levitated them toward herself. "I know I'm short, but Bangor wasn't that much bigger than me! He was a calf when I got him. The Sand People bond with their banthas, and they're supposed to grow up together."

"Bond?" Tony asked. "Like a psychic link thing or like a buddies thing?"
weetuskenraider: (Well Um)

"Not a psychic link," Tahiri said after thinking it over for a moment, "although it's happened before where a bantha will run off a cliff if its rider is killed. But it's a close bond."

"What happened to, uh, Bangor?" Tony asked.

"I'm not completely sure," Tahiri admitted. "I had to leave him behind when I went to the Jedi Academy. I saw him again, once, when I had to spend a week out in the Dune Sea, and he helped me get back home, but he stayed with the tribe. I wasn't there long enough to form a really strong bond with him, so he was okay. I hope."
