Heroing [Tuesday, period 2, class #5]

"HELLO CLASS!" boomed Captain Hammer, as soon as everyone was assembled in the Danger Shop. "I'm sorry you had to bear on without my presence last week. I had a superhero emergency." In that his cave had flooded, because Captain Hammer had not yet realized that basing his Ham-Lair on the beach wasn't the best idea. "Today... we are learning about the wonders of transportation!"

He passed around a few pictures of his various Ham-vehicles, mostly to show off. They were awesome, after all. "Every hero needs a way to get around. You can't run everywhere. What if you were busy entertaining until the last second, and needed to get somewhere extra-fast? These things," he said sagely, "do happen. So, today, we're going to play pretend!"

Hammer pressed a few buttons, and a small assortment of vehicles -- all state of the art -- appeared, each reasonably far apart from the other, with a small portion of vehicle-appropriate landscape before it. "I put you in pairs, and you're going to go play with one of these, and then report back to the class what you thought. I know both villains and heroes who all use these things! Keep that in mind! Tell us why it worked, and why it didn't. Now, shoo."

[please wait for EXTENSIVE OCD up. ETA: and yes I am aware I marked all the OCD as February 5th. Hush.]

"Not much point otherwise," Rodney agreed. He glanced around at what the rest of the class had. "We certainly win for durability."

"Totally," Summer said, nodding. "This thing could take out pretty much the rest of them. Not that I'm suggesting that"

"No, no, of course not," Rodney shook his head as though trying to dislodge the idea. "But, if we happened to lose control of it, completely by accident of course, it would be pretty amusing."

Summer nodded. "It would be like the tank that tried to run over an entire street. I mean, who hasn't laughed at that when it's shown on those disasters caught on video shows?"

"Absolutely," he nodded. "Shall we get started?" He gestured for her to precede him as he began making idle plans to program a tank so it could be controlled by remote.

"Yeah, sure," Summer said, heading toward the tank. "Though I have no idea what I'm doing."

"I'm sure I can figure it out," Rodney proclaimed confidently. "I mean, how hard can it be?"

Summer glanced up at the tank. "Uh..."

She was so eloquent about it, really.

"Although," Rodney continued, "I can't say I'm all that eager to actually be inside that thing. I don't really like confined spaces," he admitted.
