The Library; Monday [ 01/26 ].

Clutching a coffee and still kind of missing his bruises (shut up; they made him feel macho), Cal came into the library, expecting the same sort of nice, tedious day as usual. Sort books, stack books, read, lunch, read, and out. Maybe with the person or two drifting in. Same old, same old, but it was kind of nice to have that sort of dependency on things.

"Why rush it?" Cal asked, shrugging a little and maintaining his casual stroll toward the periodicals.

"'cause you're sick of me?" Yeah, she so didn't believe that. "Or 'cause Ms. Whitaker will like bug out if I'm not back by the end of the hour."

Which she also didn't care about, really.

"Exactly," said Cal, who was so repulsed by Claire's presence that he was reaching for her hand, "by the end of the hour."

"Which has a bunch more minutes," she commented helpfully as she squeezed that hand.

"A bunch more minutes," Cal elaborated, "spent on very careful research to find the best material."

They were actually nearing their destination, so he slowed down, just a little.

Claire slowed to match his pace, running her thumb down the plane of his palm. "Yeah," she agreed. "It would be dumb to screw up the assignment by bringing back bad articles."

"Really dumb," Cal said, and his slowing reached a halt at the end of the aisle with the bounded back issues of Sports Illustrated. He angled toward Claire, head ducked slightly to the side as he looked at her, tried to catch her eyes, and then decided that he didn't want to take chances with that if he caught Claire's eyes the wrong way, skipping over that part and just leaning in to kiss her.

Claire had been wondering if he was going to do something like that -- not wondering, so much, as waitin for what seemed inevitable. Her chin tilted up and her mouth lifted to crush against his, and she brought her hands to rest at either side of his waist.

Cal was trying hard to keep himself from practically throwing himself into Claire as he kissed her more; he helped this with a light hand to her cheek, squeezing hard with the one already holding hers.

His enthusiasm was as beautiful, as right, as the light aroma of old paper wafting around them. Claire opened her mouth slightly, kissing back with as much enthusiasm as she could manage while standing in the middle of a library.

It wasn't often that Indy left his office, however he needed to check a reference on a certain Hebrew dialect when he saw the young couple kissing.

He grinned in amusement and then let out a very loud. "AHEM!" before walking out into the main area.

Being interrupted was about the last thing Cal would have expected to happen right then, especially since all he could think about was how he was going to manage to shift enough so that he could pull back against the stacks, pulling Claire against him, and...

But they were being interrupted and he stiffened. He didn't pull away, not if he could help it, not yet anyway, because...

...damn it. Reluctantly, he did pull himself away after all, and that's when the blush and the urge to just grab Claire's hand and run set in.

"Don't mind me," Indiana said walking across the library to pick up a book and turned around to head back in his office. "Just picking up a book. In a public place. Where people tend to walk in and out of. On a regular basis. From time to time."

He did his best not to chuckle too loudly but he was pretty sure he made his point.

"You two have a nice day," he said before disappearing back in his office.

Claire laughed to cover her blush. "So, um ... I guess that's my cue to get my articles and go back to class."

"You don't see that guy," Cal muttered in a voice between contempt and embarrassment, "for weeks, and then, all of a sudden..."

At the worst moments...

"You know," he said, "he might not come back around again for a while..."

"What's with bosses in this town? I never see Ben either," Claire said, off-handedly.

It was never exactly hard to persuade her to cut class, and she lingered, still holding Cal's hand.

"It's not like I have to be in some huge hurry..."

"Right," Cal agreed again, giving Claire a smile, and leaning in to give what might have been just a quick kiss if he hadn't then decided that he was going to stick around and kiss her just a few for times. For good measure. To hold them over for when they finally got to getting what she'd come here for.

"I guess," he said once he figured he'd stocked up on kisses to a tolerable level, "we could at least get one of the books out so we can say we've made some progress."

They were almost stocked up on kisses. One more would do it.

"Mmm," Claire agreed, looking over his shoulder at the shelves. "Sports Illustrated, 1985. That should have something, right?"

Ugh, actually having to do work now. Cal made the slightest of faces before reaching for one of them. "And I'll check '86," he offered.

Claire made the face back at him and thumbed through her volume. "Football, football, baseball ... I think somebody tore pages out of the swimsuit issue. That's just gross."

"Yeah," Cal commented as he flipped through his own volume. "Sorry about that."

And he almost managed to say it without smirking.

"Dork," Claire accused. "Oh, cool, basketball pre-season profile with a page on him. That's good, right?"

"Might be," Cal said, leaning over to have a peek at Claire's book. "I don't know. Maybe better look for something else," and therefor spending more time there, "just in case."

"Like what?" Claire asked, stepping backward to lean against him lightly.

"Um, like," Cal said, leaning back a little and opening up to a random page. One that was no good. He tried again, still to no success, and began thumbing through the pages instead.

"This!" He finally said, presenting a post-season article highlighting points as to why it it might have been Larry Bird's best one yet.

"...man," he couldn't help commenting, "guy's funny looking."
